Jerry went a LONG time without ever putting a priority on the OL until it was a few years into being blatently obvious that we needed to.

You don't have enough information to say that Waters wouldn't be a good solution, but what we do know is that the last year he played in this league, he played well.

I'm not concerned about what Jerry used to do, and I do not believe that signing incredibly old band-aids is the proper way to build a cohesive line.

Yes, and he's also a guy who was one of the top 5 or so O-linemen in the history of the league.

You can't take the best OL guy and use him as an example.

OK, Flozell Adams played tackle in college and started for the Cowboys at guard for one season before moving to tackle.

and he was allowed to do what in that first season?

Focus on playing G.

Maybe someone can give us some insight from Adams first training camp BUT keep in mind Adams didn't play guard in college. Frederick did.

And if Garrett and Callahan think this is the best thing for the Dallas Cowboys, then I support it.

The mob is going to storm the castle if Costa somehow insinuates his way back into the starting lineup and Frederick is played at a position other than center.

Very well could happen. Would it be less of a bad thing if Costa is at G and Frederick is at C? I don't get the hangup that many have that says Frederick HAS to play center. He's played both positions in college. It's not a big deal.

Did you really think those signings represented guys who they thought were the future of our OL here?

unless Costa is a better guard than Arkin- and considering how little they have tried Costa at guard that is not likely- then his only position is center.

ALmost certainly Fredrick is a better guard than Costa. BUT how much of a difference is there from Costa at center and the Beard at Guard from the Beard at Center and Arkin at guard? That is the question. The most likely scenario is Beard at Center with Leary and Arkin at guard. By the way comparing LA to any of the offal we have at guard right now is obscene. LA was a once in a generation if not more player.

I've got to give this post big thumbs up for managing to work the word "offal" into a post. Well done sir, you are wordsmith of the day.

i think leary should be Rg and Frederick should be the LG.

From what I'm reading about practice today Costa is 2nd team C with Leary on the left and Arkin/Bern on the Right. Costa is taking 3rd team snaps at LG. Arkin is taking 3rd team snaps at C.

Unclear who is 3rd team RG but we'd likely hear about it if it were Fred.

Doesn't sound like Frederick is doing anything today other than playing C. Costa at LG might give us a hint about something.

And here I'd assumed he just misspelled "awful."

I could care less where Frederick plays as long as he solidifies an interior OL position. Get the best five on the field. The problem is that the other two interior OL positions aren't shaping up to be any better than last year.

I really like Frederick because I like his smarts and I think he can be a long term leader on the OL (which it desperately needs). I would love to see an established vet to anchor the line, but Waters may be too long in the tooth. I though Smith and Free both played best when Kosier was playing next to them.

I wouldn't read much into it. Barring injury, it tells me he's going to be a backup so they want to get him work at all 3 interior line positions.

I don't want to jump on the Cowboys too soon before it plays out a little but it is pretty pathetic how they didn't upgrade the guard position.

I agree! Typical Jerry, he was all over the map with his draft selections. For the life of me, I don't understand why Jerry has never solidified a position group. Couple of studs on d-line, the rest garbage.

What I'm trying to say: while Jerry was off selecting TE and WR, he should've been using those selections to try an solidify the o-line.

My five lineman: Smith Fredrick Costa Leary Free

Say good bye to the bum guards

Sounds about right. If they were going in the direction of Frederick at G tho i would like it to be on the left side. Thats Romos blind side. Tyron and frederick would be solid. I actually think this team is going to have to go out and aquire a G. Mack and Livings are what seem to be called slow healers. I dont think they can go into the season with this group. Leary from everything im reading is the team likes him and i dont think hes not going to be a starter. He just need to build that confidence in himself. Its clear this team knows he's talented enough. I can see one of Mack or Livings cut this yr. Maybe in them first round of cuts the team is looking for vets cut. This team needs a real vet on the OL

It boggles me that people actually think it was Jerry making each of these draft picks.

Maybe I should have said this was a typical Cowboys draft

As the GM, Jerry should have the vision of the way he wants his team built

That I buy. Especially under Jason. The last three have all had a bizarre complexion on draft day.
