Quarterback (2)

Dak Prescott

Kellen Moore

Broaddus: I have to admit that Kellen Moore made more good throws in these offseason practices than he did poor ones. The fact that the coaching staff is comfortable with him will get him the backup job even though the scouts will continue to keep an eye on other clubs this summer.

Running Back/Fullback (4)

Ezekiel Elliott

Darren McFadden

Rod Smith

Keith Smith

I could see Bell - but who knows

Broaddus: I don’t have Robert Blanton making this team at safety, because I am willing to see what I have in Xavier Woods If they rotate the position like they did last season, I believe that Woods will be fine.

Awuzie maybe even seeing some time at safety like Byron Jones did.

this for me

The one guy I disagree with him on is Byron Bell. Given his experience and the bonus/ incentives they gave him, they like something. I think he sticks over Joey Ivie or any 7th linebacker.

Ivie will have to have a monster preseason to make the 53

Yeah unless Bell flops or one of the young guys(Theaker?) lights it up, Bell seems like a perfect backup given experience and versatility. Seems like the perfect player you have in reserve who can play a few games and keep everything afloat.

If Looney is our starting guard than our front office really whiffed when they let Leary go.
I think you can put a trained monkey at LG and it will be passable because of the guys on either side. I'm kidding. Barely.

We'll revisit the Leary decision in two years when he can't stay on the field

I really like Lotuleilei a lot as a reserve LB / special teamer. He's got really good movement skills and can run. He lacks length but at WLB, he's pretty covered up and won't take on many blocks. He will be able to just run to the ball... which he's very good at.

In many defenses, he wouldn't be a fit but the guy fits at the Will position for Marinelli.

His love of the game, work ethic and enthusiasm are strong positives.

Think a little bigger Bill Bates.

The team couldn't have had that much money up front (including Collins' payday).

Leary wasn't worth what he is making... but he isn't worth it particularly to Dallas.

If Dallas had very little talent on the OL... they would have likely sprung for Leary... even at that too high a price.

However, they didn't have to overpay a guy who's knees could go at any time specifically because they have so much talent upfront.

Everything else being equal, I would have liked to keep Ron... but man does Dallas have money upfront on that line. Martin and likely Collins included.

I think they'd like to 'Sneal the Theak' to the oractice squad.

He probably won't be but that doesn't change the fact the Cowboys were not going to give Leary and his suspect knee a big deal like he got with Denver. A healthy Leary yes but with a chance his career could end quickly - NO.
