Scout’s Eye: Romo’s Execution, Wilson’s Speed Among 12 Thoughts

This is the healthiest that Tony Romo has been in years and it showed in the way he was able to execute. Even the shot he took down the field to Terrance Williams I thought was delivered well. It was evident that the extra practice and scout-team snaps helped him prepare. His mechanics were on point, especially moving to his left when he fired the ball to Williams for the touchdown. I liked what I saw from the velocity of his ball and the placement of it. There was some nice snap to his throws.

Damien Wilson has a chance to be a really good player for this defense. His ability to run and cover ground is impressive. He is a physical finisher when in position, but he needs to play under better control and not overrun plays. He led the defense with eight tackles on the day, but had a chance to add two to three more. He was just too aggressive. I really like what he could develop into as a blitzer with his speed.

• I admit that I had concern about Emmett Cleary in this game and the potential problems he could have had with the Eagles’ Connor Barwin and Vinny Curry. It appeared that the Cowboys staff didn’t give Cleary much help throughout the game with extra blockers to his side, but he wasn’t any worse for wear. There were actually a couple of snaps where he was able to get out in space to secure a block, which was not one of his strengths in games where I scouted him before. I still believe that this team will miss Chaz Green as that swing tackle, especially with the injuries to Tyron Smith, but I have to give credit where credit is due – Cleary exceeded my expectations for him in this game.

Move Cleary to the right side!

This is the first year in a while where I feel like I see lots of coaching happening, versus counting on talent to execute plays.

Also, my favorite thing about this team is the hitting on D. Man, they are bringing it every game and it's not just Wilcox! I love watching this D play...can't remember the last time I said that!

TEs have been killing the D from what I can remember. Hopefully we don't catch any elite ones in the playoff run. It was just about the only thing that kept the Commanders in it with us it seemed.

There is a side of me that believes Mark Sanchez put himself in a position where if this front office needed a roster spot, his name would be discussed

Cant fault Broaddus for his eye sight. He was a disaster.
It is too bad that Romo didn't get to show that he can take a hit. If they were comfortable with his probability if staying healthy then they could move on from Sanchez.

Whatever Marinelli was limited to because of having to play mostly backups and 3rd stringers for this game, Philly fully capitalized on it. At 1 point I think 32 of 38 Wentz passes were to TE's and RB's.

I don't think Dak was in ONE of this guys headlines all season. Romo is there after only 4 passes.

I don't mess with this sack of garbage anyway! #thinskinbiasthinksheknowsitallhack

It all goes back to Sanchez. What an atrocious performance. I don't care what position it is, Go grab any guy on the street and put him on the team and get rid of this nightmare of a player

Honestly, I can't imagine Sanchez being anything resembling an acceptable backup for the Cowboys next season.

It must have been somewhat comforting for Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers to see how badly he fared Sunday.

This is the first time I disagreed with B. On his show with Nate Newton and Campo, he was surprised that Romo looked good. Isn't he around practices? Romo has been doing well in practices. Even Campo disagreed with him saying he expected Romo to not lose a step. Is Brian a Romo hater?

Man, Sanchez must be one of the smartest X's and O's guys out there, because that dude is terrible in game.

Wilson's been playing pretty good this year. He's looked instinctive and at times explosive. He's definitely still raw, and that long Carson Wentz run on 3rd down was all him. But he's solid depth right now with potential. It's nice to get starters and surprises in the 4th round like Dak, but a Wilson is still a win. He could probably start for some teams.

Gachkar has always been a good athlete, think he ran something like a 4.5? at his college Pro Day and his shuttle was elite like. Good to see Rod getting the most out of him, probably his last year in Dallas though.

I think the TE stuff was actually how they gameplanned it. If it were me, and we're facing those QB's and secondaries in the NFC, I'd have worked on taking the outside game away too, even if it meant Ertz catching a lot of balls. Sean Lee will be playing in the future, and he's a big part of the pass defense in the middle of the field.

Irving's versatility is a strength, not a question to ponder. Put him over the guy you think he has the best matchup against, if he does poorly there, put him at the other position. The way he's been playing, he'll get a favorable matchup against somebody.

Cleary is a huge dude with 34+ inch arms, there might have been a PS eligibility thing when he got waived by the Giants, but we obviously had a little interest in him to pick him up after they waived him. Bounced around a lot but he looked okay when he played. They have his rights through 2017 so might be someone to watch in camp if they keep him. Plus, his first name is Emmett, I mean come on.

It might provide a small measure of comfort to a prospective team for a reasonable trade offer to be forthcoming. Suddently, Showers looks a tad better and so does Moore in comparison to Sanchez. I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted another QB at some point, either.

Finally got to see Romo's drive (on the road during the game) and outside of that first pass he looked great. Heartily disagree with the first pass being "delivered well." Maybe he meant Romo's footwork but that ball should have been floated higher and outside. TWill had plenty of room to the boundary and Romo put it in the only place where the defender could have made a play on it.

If we'd seen one pass and it was an INT this board would have been insufferable.

Anyone know what play he is referring to here:

• After the game, Dak Prescott said on the play where Malcolm Jenkins hit his arm that it was a “Hot” read, but his receiver didn’t read it or win quick enough for him to throw the ball there. Prescott then tried to go to his second read, but couldn’t get enough on the ball to take the shot down the field. I know several of you thought that Lance Dunbar might have missed the pickup, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
