  • It appears thatRolando McClain made it through the entire practice without any issues due to his cramping that gave him problems on Tuesday. I can see McClain getting some action with both the first and second set of linebackers against the Dolphins. It’ll be interesting to see how his conditioning holds up on what will be a humid night
  • Don’t be surprised to see Zack Martin get his first game action at center against the Dolphins. Martin has been working at the position and looks comfortable enough to see how far he has really come as a possible backup.
    • Been told that Ryan Williams has done a much better job with his blitz pickups in regards to knowing which player to get and finishing his blocks. This was an area that was holding him back in his overall game.

  • Would not be surprised to see Ahmad Dixonhave a big game defensively after sitting out the Baltimore game.

Better hope Martin never gets hurt. Besides starting RG he is he primary back up at every OL position. Williams picking up the blitz better is bad news for Randle.

I still think they keep 4 RBs....If they cut one of these guys it's a mistake. There is trade value there.

We still have Berny at back up center

I'll be the first to say it......this back up we have.. Ronald Patrick is playing some pretty decent ball @ C. If I had to pick one between Bernie and RP @ C.. it would be really close. I think RP has outplayed Bernie @ C.....but Bernie's versatility might save him because he can play C/G

If it comes to it I think the team should look at going with Vaughan as the backup and let him sink or swim if forced into action.

Weeden is too old to be a prospect and not really good enough to give you sufficient confidence that he'd do a whole lot better than the #3.

Joseph Randle has come a long way since last year in his strength, quickness, smarts and conditioning. He's actually been at the forefront of those producing in camp and preseason. I think Randle will likely be retained, somewhat to the dismay of those who don't cater to the idea that players oftentimes do improve. The fact that Williams has gotten better in his pass blocking doesn't necessarily mean that he'll actually be good at it. Assuming he's greatly improved, the rest of our RBs other than Randle haven't yet been proven durable. That alone may be enough to keep Randle around if his improvement doesn't count for much.

I'm with you.

Randle was drafted to step in and give DeMarco a breather.

He struggled last year with a lot of additional issues such as injury and incomplete knowledge of his blocking assignment, etc.

I've watched his re-draft video clips and he was a completely different back in those than we have seen.

I don't think you cut him.

What you do is give him carries behind this granite OL and then let's see what we have.

Randle was not drafted to pass block.

We have spent millions drafting his upfront buddies.

They need to block, open some holes an make everybody who is carrying the rock look like Tony Dorsett.

End of discussion, folks.

Worrying about Randle's pecking order on the roster is foolish.

Pray this OL lays the wood to the other team for 4 qts.

That's a tall enough order.

That's not a bad idea.

Vaughn can make all the throws, is a quick study, and Weeden could be valuable in trade after an unfortunate QB injury somewhere.

It would be pretty awesome if Martin would practice at least once at tackle. Since, you know, we already have like 3 other guys who can play center. And how many right tackles do we have waiting in the wings after Free? To assume that Martin would be able to just come in and play at RT with literally zero practice at this level is foolish. Seems to me that (backup) tackle isn't in this club's plans for Martin, at least not this year.

And Vaughn won't clear wavers in order to make the PS; he simply has too much upside.

This, except I would keep Weeden as the primary backup; he's a better prospect if Tony goes down for just a game or two.

Tony's back will never be 100% healthy so keeping a 3rd QB prospect (that they may actually like) on the roster would only be prudent. That is unless they have already decided to tank if Tony does goes down for an extended period.

One more decent game and I agree. Never thought of it though and I doubt Dallas has seriously either, unfortunately.

I agree.

To say nothing of the injury histories of both Murray and Dunbar.

I would be OK with that. If Romo can't play they might as well tank the season to get a top 10 pick and draft a QB.

Weeden might be good enough to screw up the draft pick by winning an extra game or two over the young guy.

It does bring up and interest question about player and age. With so much less wear compared to most 30 year old QBs, how much would age affect him if he did suddenly become a quality QB?

I wouldn't at all be on board with that plan for a few reasons:
1. This team isn't tanking YET.
2. If you do need a game or two handled via back up you want Weeden in there.
3. If Weeden fills in and wins a couple games all of a sudden he has trade value and reverts to the guy Holmgren loved. --btw you can bet Holmgren is part of why Weeden is here. Jerry trusts that guy on QBs.
4. If Vaughn is up it essentially starts his NFL clock and locks you into a development life cycle.

Weeden is the right price and the right age for a career back up QB. He is our new Jason Garrett.
He is never a long-term starting solution but he is an able bodied journeyman who chose to ride it out here because he likes the area.
His age isn't a big deal because he is not athletic but does have good size and arm strength things that wane slowly.
When he comes in you run the ball and let him every 3rd or 4th play as a pass.
