You guys are right. We should always take the lesser players so we have a lot of backups! Brilliant!!

Why do you choose to ignore the games the defense played well? There weren't a lot, but they are there.
Ha I can only imagine. In fact, now that I think about it, it's probably a good thing that they spread the draft out over several days. I'm not sure some of the posters on here could've handled watching us pass on Manziel, give up our 3rd to trade up, and then draft Hitchens in the 4th all in quick succession. It would've been insanity.
No one said a 4th round pick should be an immediate starter. But when you pick at 119 the guy who is the 250th rated player and then state he will be a backup it is a bad pick. Telvin Smith was sitting there and I would be happy to wager he will be a starter if not this season by next season. You must have loved the 09 backup draft.
But but but my draft guide says he is ranked as a 7th rounder.
He makes plays, and played defense for a Big 10 school that has put several dependable defensive players into the NFL.
The guy was drafted in the 5th round, obviously the NFL disagrees with you.
It was not just your draft guide but everyone's draft guide that had Hitchens nowhere near the 4th round. Hitchens is likely going to be a very good backup and ST player but the expectation for a 4th rounder is a guy who will challenge for a starting spot. In either case, Hitchens was overdrafted, not a value pick. I hope I am proven wrong but IMO there were UDFA LBs (e.g. Carlos Fields, Jack Doughty, Alvin Scioneaux, etc.) that will end up being better or just as good at pro level.
Ding Ding Ding. Number one answer on the boardThis pick seems to be another "Matt Johnson", "Kyle Wilber", "David Arkin", "AOA", "Stephen McGee", "Victor Butler", "Brandon Williams", "Tashard Choice" selection..
media's analysis of later round players is sketchy. Look at how far off the draft media was with guys like Jeffcoat.

NFL teams aren't too keen on 218 pound LBs.
It's a wrong answer since many of those players were rated to go in that area by the media. What they do have in common is that 4th round picks have a high percentage of failure.
Obviously Jacksonville had no problem with his weight.
