Cowboys C Travis Frederick vs. Giants DT Damon Harrison

The Giants are a base 4-3 front, so like the Cowboys defensively, they play with one and three techniques.

Traditionally, the Giants have played with big inside players, and this upcoming season is no exception with Damon Harrison and Johnathan Hankins. Harrison came to the Giants from across town, with the New York Jets, and has established himself as a starter. What has been impressive about Harrison is for such a large man (350 pounds), he is extremely light on his feet. He has the size of those nose tackles from a previous era, who just sat in the middle of the line and ate blocks.

What makes Harrison different from those others tackles is in his ability to move and work down the line. More times than not, he is up the field defeating blockers, then redirecting toward the ball. Harrison doesn’t just play in one spot, and his ability to work outside the tackle box is impressive.

Where Frederick has improved his game since his rookie season is dealing with these big tackles inside. There was a time where he wasn’t as good when dealing with those heavy techniques like Harrison. Frederick is not going to be able to move Harrison, so his ability to cut him off from getting to the outside is going to be key in the running game.

Frederick is going to have to keep himself between Harrison and the ball and make him run over the top of him to get there -- which should allow enough time for the back to get through the hole.

Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne vs. Giants WR Sterling Shepard

I'm more concerned about how Mo will do with Sterling Shepard than I am about Frederick with Harrison but we'll see. Hopefully, both will hold their own vs. some very tough competition. There's good reason to believe that both Mo and Frederick are playing better than ever right now, though.

Frederick has handled Suh 2 years running. I am not really worried about him or his beard. Mo on the other hand. I see a lot of holding penalties being called.

While everyone's apparently panicking about Mo holding down the invincible Sterling Shepard, I'm looking forward to Mo blanketing ODB(itch).

Make no mistake, the giants updated their DL specially to beat us.Vernon had great success against Tyron in one game and that was enough for the Giants to give him 90 million and Harrison and Hankins will be a force in the middle,

Zone Blocking made the 350 pound DT are rare breed. They get worn out running laterally. Add to that the heavy percentage of passing and those types will likely be in a heavy rotation.

Mo has had a great off season but at this point any receiver against him scares me. The only plus for me is jones at safety scandrick back.

Not worried about Sterling. ODB is the WR that can destroy us. Harrison is a good player. But I honestly can't recall an interior DL really causing major issues for us since the beginning of 2014. Maybe Suh in the WC game?? Occasionally Fletcher Cox.... but he's more of a smaller mobile DT.

Honestly ODB and whoever Free is lined up on are the 2 critical match-ups to cause a nervous sweat.

Isnt Shephard their slot guy? Are they going to move scandrick outside just to match him on a veteran?

The only way the Giants D can hurt us is if they stack the box with 8 or 9 and Dak fails to make them pay through the air. They will make Dak beat them with his arm and I expect an ultra-aggressive gameplan from Spagnuolo. He will be calling all kinds of twists, stunts, and run blitzes to put us behind the chains.

If Dak proves he can burn them consistently when they are in man coverage, we will be able to go back to ground and pound. This is a game where I think we will have to throw to set up the run.

I think they want Cruz operating out of the slot. But with Scandrick back on the field and Jones patrolling the middle of the field...I am not too worried about their medium/deep passing game.

Their short passing game can cause us fits though. Eli gets rid of the ball FAST and with guys like Cruz and OBJ we will need to make sure to rally to the ball and gang tackle effectively.

FredBeard fears no man!

After the game, an exhausted and battered Harrison will softly mumble just one phrase...... "Fear the beard, fear the beard............."

Last sentence of the article, he writesx Mo is the most consistent CB at defending the ball. Does everyone here agree with that?

From what we have seen in the preseason it's true.

If I remember correctly, Frederick didn't have much trouble against Harrison last season against NYJ. We averaged 6.3 ypc for 133 yards that game and they were the 2nd best run defense in 2015. NYG's front 4 are talented but I think our offensive line and our RBs will be up for the challenge.

The running back can set up blocks in situations that are just a little off...and Dallas has some good running backs. Elliott has great speed to add when toting the rock on the carpet.

What happens if Prescott looks like a human rookie Sunday? This board will be "sky is falling" all night
