What is the pick status for Dallas? I can't remember how many picks and in what rounds they have picks this year.

I'm not certain Josee. I think we have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th but no 4th. Not certain if we have extras or not but I would imagine a few vets will be moved and a few picks will be aquired. Having said that, I think that if we traded down out of the first, we could easily aquire two additional picks in the 2nd and 3rd or possibly a 1st in 07 and a pick in the 2nd. There are a lot of good football players at positions we need this year. I like the idea of trading down if there isn't a can't miss player we must have at 18.

I think it would be difficult to pass up on Ngata if he fell to us - esp. if we got a RT in FA.

Our DL would be set for years.

I agree with you ,but I disagree with these rankings.
It would be a pipe dream to think Ngata would drop to us.
I think he is a top ten pick....

What's it going to be then, eh?

Nose guards, no matter how good, rarely go in the Top Ten.

Vince Wilfork was just as good and he slid all the way down. The same could easily happen with Ngata unless he works out very very well.

So did I. I saw one draft site that had Jonathon Scott the OT from Texas as the overall #1 prospect. He didn't even make the top 32 on this list.

Several have had Eric Winston in the top 25. Misses here.

I've seen Brooks high on a couple of lists. Absent here.

I've seen Bobby Carpenter, not an ILB, high on a couple too. Absent here.

What it tells me is that this draft is going to be extremely deep at some positions.

Agree, I also think some of the mocks are weighed more to team need then best player available.

I think this may be a draft we can trade down to pick up picks and still get a OT and ILB as first round talent drops into the second for those positions. Tackle is very deep in this draft.

I'm an ASU alum and even I'm not sold on Hagan at #18. He has produced with several different QBs but he's never stuck me as a leader and he's certainly not going to become a Chad Johnson/Michael Irvin type, which is what I'd like to see from our number one. He's benefited from Koetter's dynamic passing offense and some very good receiving TEs. I want to love him, but I sometimes worry he'll turn into Rashaun Woods in the pros.

Hos, I know you want to go defense at #18. If the top 32 fell this way, who's your pick? I'm running to the podium to select Ngata.
I turn in the name Haloti Ngata so fast that Tags wouldn't have time to take a step.

Then I'd pray that Bobby Carpenter, Eric Winston, or Laron Landry fell to us in the 2nd since they aren't on this list.

I'm trading down if possible. I like Winston very much and there are several OLs that we could use not even mentioned. Gotta believe we could get a quality OT like Whitworth or the kid out of BC Trueblood, one of the Texas kids. One of them would be there. Most of the Guards would also be there. Jean-Gilles, Spencer, Allen, Lutui, take your pick. Eslinger the Center is on the board still. D'Qual Jackson or Hodge is not listed. Either of those guys would be nice picks. Carpenter would be on the board and so would Lawson. Lawson opposite Ware would be unbelievable. Our pick of FS would also be there. Huff, Landry, Griffen, Phillips or Zemaitis are all solid 2nd round guys.

I would trade down and pick up picks. We would still be able to fill needs with good football players IMO.

Huff is a first round guy. No way Huff slips past ATL in the first round. If he does we better snatch him up.

I think Huff is a first round pick also but clearly, he is not taken in the first round of this mock. That's how I kinda looked at it.

I want Haloti Ngata bad!

By the way..DC stand for defensive corner and I have NO clue why it's not just DB. LOL

As far as who the Cowboys should draft with the 1st round pick, I'm a little all over the place to be honest...I would like another dynamic defensive player but at the same time we need some offensive line help.

True NT's have a history of dropping a bit...
I think Wilfork coming out was little undersized for the position..
Ngata is a sound 6'4 345 lbs , If not mistaken Wilforlk wa like 6'2 300-310lbs still a big dude ,but not special size like Ngata....

All this being said I sure hope Ngata drops to us and I also would wonder how many NFL GM's are kicking themselves for not taking Wilfork .....

That's an impressive top 10...have not seen a dominant one in a few years like this.

It will push some top OT's into the 2nd round....good for us!

Pope - TE 6-7 Stud

Ngata will drop - would not be upset with him at all. Like Gabe Watson a lot at DT too.

Wilfork was 6-1 330 going into NFL. Nothing small about him at all.

I was wrong about Wilfork..
I went back and looked ... He came out of college 6'2 343lbs...Pretty huge..
Maybe Ngata will fall to us? I would not mind ....
Lots of teams have been converting to the 34 , so hopefully that dose not have any effect...With guys like Fergie getting these nice contracts , it is hard to believe that there is not more of a premium for these guys in the draft....

Jimmy Williams
2006 NFL Draft Prospect

from Matt Malott

Position: Cornerback
School: Virginia Tech

Status: Senior

Height: 6-2

Weight: 205

40-Yard Dash: 4.50(est)

Positives:
One of the best things about Jimmy, is that he can play both corner and safety. He has the most fluid hips of any CB in the draft other than Antonio Cromartie, who is injured. He also has good recognition between run and pass, and route recognition. He's a smart player that won't make many mistakes on the field. His good leaping ability allows him to compete with WRs in jump-ball situations.

Negatives:
Williams isn't the fastest cornerback in the draft with a 4.5 40-yard dash. This will hurt him when he has to cover the faster WRs in the league. He may struggle recognizing play action with some of the leagues best QBs. Williams may not be strong enough to get off blocks from some of the stronger WRs, which will cause him to not be able to make some plays.

Overview:
Originally, he would have been the second cornerback taken, but with the injury to Antonio Cromartie, he will be the first CB off the board. He made the switch from safety to corner last season, so he's a little raw, but he will only get better. His first year in the NFL will be either as a No. 2 or nickel player. He could develop into one of the better CBs if he gets faster and stronger. Williams should be a top-10 pick depending on which teams hold the picks.Suggested Reading

If Ngata fell to us, I would really love to get him. But too many other teams may take him. Especially the Bills, I know all their fans love Ngata, and they really need a big fat DT.

I've watched Ngata play 5-6 times, and he just never impresses me. His scouting and draft bios make him sound like an animal, but he's really just kind of a workman-like clogger.

He's a 34 NT. That's what there supposed to do. The only reason I would even consider taking a NT with a first is because we are really in what I consider to be a difficult position where NTs are concerned. I think Glover is gone. Ferguson, a guy I really expected more out of, could not beat out Glover last year. That tells me that he's probably not the answer for us, even in the short term. I think we seriously need help at NT and since the 34 lives and dies with the ability to control the Center Guard gaps at the point of attack, it's a must need IMO.

I hate the 34.
