I say scrap the 3-4. go back to 4-3. the D was fine as a 4-3 under Zimmer. Parcells brought in his renowned 3-4 and screwed things up.

Check your patella. I think you jerked it plum off.

I'm curious about this but what exactly would the change to a 4-3 do for the secondary not playing up to par?
More pressure from ellis and ware nonstop.

Greg Ellis had double digit sacks in Phillips' 3-4 defense last year and made the Pro Bowl for the first time, ever.

Now, he has 2 sacks after 7 games, and he is making excuses about the scheme and throwing the "defensive coordinator" under the bus according to Mosley.

This defense, a few of these cry babbies are playing, is player friendly. It is a one gap scheme, and it is aggressive. The defense has 4-3 concepts. If players like Ellis and Tank Johnson don't have the guts to go to Wade Phillips and make their complaints known and they have to run to the principal's office like little kids, then no wonder they have not made an impact this year, outside of Ellis' two sack game against the Eagles. It tells me all I need to know about them. They don't take responsibility for their poor play.

Bat,

This one is yours.

Sorry 41, I just don't have the strength to speak "idiot" anymore. As it is, I'm sure my I.Q. just took another nosedive when I read about the Zimmer love.

Too bad we didnt bring in Capers. He would show us how successful a 3-4 can be.

a 4-3 will allow us to incorporate our 3 best pass rushers (Ellis, Ware, and Spencer) and will allow us to better utilize Tank and Ratliff who will be able to play agressive.

You can play aggressive in ANY scheme.

And we can incorporate our 3 "Best" pass rushers now. 4-3...3-4... doesn't matter when Spencer is hurt all the time.

Ware could be asked to rush the passer every play in the 3-4 if that's what the coaches wanted. No need to move to the 4-3 if rushing the passer more is what they ask him to do.

I don't think a drastic change of philosophy is wise mid-season, especially with the current personnel. I do think there's something to the idea that the defensive scheme might be too complex, the coaches trying to constantly outhink their opponents rather than just lining up and winning the individual matchups. Try simplifying the scheme and letting the Cowboys athletes make plays. There does seem to be some validity to the idea that a lot of the big plays being given up are not because the Boys are being whipped at the point of attack, but that they're often out of position. If execution is the problem, streamline and let the players cut loose more. Overall, the defense has been decent, but with the secondary being thin due to injury and suspension, a more straightforward aggressive approach might work better. And just for my taste, I wouldn't mind seeing the corners switching up some and playing more press coverage. Henry and Jenkins are big, strong guys who would seem to be well suited to that approach. I've never liked seeing corners ten yards off wideouts.

But, for God's sake, the offensive line has to play MUCH better. They're supposed to be the strength of the team, but they're getting flat-out owned.

We don't get penetration and we don't shed blocks very well. Not to mention tackling. 4-3 won't change that one bit!!!!

4-3 will change that and the way they have to block. Their won't be as many line man getting to the 2nd level and the double teams on the NT won't happen as much.

I love this post. It pretty much expresses how i feel. I do disagree with Jenkins being big though. I feel like he would get pushed around if we asked him to play press on certain wide outs.

The only thing I tend to dislike about the 3-4 is its weakness against the run. But we are 13 against the run this year. It is hard for me to find so much wrong with this D when our special teams and offense put them in such bad positions. This D looks good when our O is playing well, its what it was predicated on. When they are on the field so long bad things are bound to happen.

We've had solid rush defense but to overall say the D looks well is bull and say offense is hurting the D its because of the offense we win the games.

How is the O helping the D right now? You cannot expect them to stop everyone all the time if they keep starting on our side of the field.
