Screen Plays, Wade's Adjustment, Know the Rules...

before I start, let me say I am thrilled with our victory...however 3 things stood out that maybe you guys have insight on:

a) WHY CAN'T WE EVER RUN A SCREEN PLAY...In 5 years I think we may have run 2 effectively. The rest look like a chinese fire drill, or Romo overthrows them, or they end up as 4 yard loses,

b) After watching Wade play very, very conservative on three 3rd and longs (not necessarily the wrong approach mind you), he FINALLY brought pressure on the last one taking a page out of Philly's book (God rest your sould Jim Johnson)...THANK YOU. Put pressure on them once in a while and rush the play, get a sack, whatever. Instead of allowing them 11 yards on a 3rd and 12, and then having them pin you inside the 20 on a punt, see if a blitz can get something going field position wise like they did to us...

and c) Did we challenge the illegal forward pass beyond the line of scrimmage because it was worth a shot, or because the coaches asking wade to do so are not 100% certain of the rule that ANY part of the QB behind the line counts (i.e. toenail)...don't look at the ball only?

Let me know...of course keep in mind that this is ONLY week9

Great observation on the screen plays. I was screaming at the t.v. begging for them to run screens to felix jones. We should have killed the eagles far worse with big plays than we did last night. I think we'll see that next time we face them.

We ran several screen plays during the game. Ran several last week as well, both TE and WR screens.

We challenged because it was very very close and that TD gave them the lead. Why is that confusing? I was going to be pissed if he DIDN'T challenge that. Win or lose if it's a controversial call and it gives them the lead, I have no problem with a challenge.

We run tons of screens. Ogletree's big play that set up the TD was a beautifully executed screen.

I agree about the challenging the across the line thing, I said exact same thing at the tv while watching it as to why Wade does not seem to know these rules because it was a waste to call that.

As far as screens go, not sure what you have been watching lately because we had several good screens to bo WRs and RBs in the past few weeks. Ogletree and Crayton both caught similar screen plays yesterday

I should have clrified...WR screens yes, we run those with a certain degree of success, but screens to our RBs and TEs I would have to strongly disagree with you on...

The post was in reference to the what do you feel the decision was based on. I too have no issue with the decision to do so, but I just wondering how many think the coaching staff truly was aware of the rule, or were they just trying to roll the dice...I thought it was interesting...

Gee...seem to be a lot of people that need to relax just a bit here...

It very well could be...of course if I jump off a building I will blame you over the course of my 12 story fall...

It wasn't close at all,,, a total waste of a challenge and a timeout. What made it a "beyond-stupid" challenge is that the NY Giants made this exact same challenge on a Tony Romo pass last year(or the year before) and they lost it because Romo's back foot was still behind the LOS,,,, there is no excuse for not knowing that rule.

The last time I saw a screen to a RB was a couple of games ago. It was successful for about 20 some yards. After that, not one to a RB that I recall.

Same goes for passes in the flat. Get Felix one on one with a LB. Easy. Too easy.

Saw a TE screen to Bennett once or twice this year.

The other teams know we are not going to call a RB screen. So we have the element of surprise too.

Exactly. If you know the rule, you would realize that Wade challenging the call was a bad idea.:bang2:

We used the Wildcat instead of traditional HB screens to neutralize the Philly rush. I think you need to broaden your definition of a screen play. I would've hoped Felix would've become a RB screen machine by now but his injuries have slowed him carving out a specific niche. I also wonder if our slow, hulking Olineman are ever going to be suited for that play. But Ogletree and Roy W. made some hay last night with WR screens.

Wait, let me get this straight. We're questioning our screen passes? Perhaps several of you dont actually watch our games, because we've ran several this year, and the ones to Ogletree last night were on 3rd down that kept drives alive.

Also, I'm pretty sure everyone knows the rule as far as throwing past the LOS is concerned.

The Romo to Crayton TD pass last year in Dallas agains NYG took quite awhile to review, and we got a good explanation of why it was a legal throw.

I'm sure the coaches know this rule.

On (b), we were getting pressure with our front four. I'm not sure how you can say anything negative about the defensive play or play calling last night. Their offense came in scoring 29 points per game and we held them to 16 in their own house on national TV. I'm absolutely thrilled.

And on (c), I was at the stadium and was screaming that he was over the line. Once I watched it on TV later it was clearer that he was not - but these challenge decisions need to be made quick and I can't fault Wade for the decision.

So did Wade challenge to get "Lucky" with the call or what? I still think we got lucky on that 4th and 1 play where they determined McNabb didn't convert. Unless they blew the play dead when he was behind the line...I don't see how he didn't get it.

NOT questioning the calls...please read the post...

Thought it was great how we seemed to make an "adjustment" in thinking/style though. It was a page out of the Philly book on D (and like it or not that book has been pretty solid for a long, long time).
