Spent some time watching the pass rush drills yesterday.

Consistency will be the operative term for these young players in addition to the need for technique work but we do have something to work with regard to the DL rotation.

Lawrence Okoye #74: Has nice size for DE, plays with power buts needs better technique. Definitely shows some pass rush ability with power. He is just raw at this point.

CharlesTapper #79: This guy has strength and power with speed. He was able to capture the edge well, he simply needs technique work and consistency. They moved him inside at the 3 tech and he was disruptive. I think this guy has something for the future and will add to the rotation now.

Rodney Coe #67: Thick frame with great power and can get interior penetration at DT, he simply needs technique work, raw but definitely has potential for interior disruption.

David Irving #95: Still very raw but is using his length to his advantage and is showing some quickness off the edge.
As he develops his hand placement, Irving could become something on the edge!

Ryan Russell #99: What a difference a year can make, he has definitely improved, still needs consistency but is showing some edge ability early in camp and has demonstrated a variety of moves which is helping his cause.

DLaw: Shame about his suspension because he is hands down our best pass rusher and looks to be getting better. He had some wins against Tyron and looks to be disruptive lining up on the left and right in camp. He looks good thus far!

Thornton: Definitely has shown some interior disruption but has been inconsistent as well. He admitted he was still getting into shape and he probably can tell the task against our OL will be daunting. However, I can see his power and ability on some plays but look for more consistency. He has pushed Frederick back a few times and won a few battles against him thus far.

J Crawford: Definitely will help in the rotation, some plays he looks really fast and explosive on the edge and at other times uses poor technique and gets sat on by the OL.

what about #66 McAdoo?

He has some nice measurables but yesterday he showed very little as did Wood, they were sat down on often and were taken to school.

This was just from a small sample size, all of them could improve or regress as we go forward.

McAdoo was originally listed as 6-7, 245 on the roster and currently is reportedly at 255.

Seems a bit light in the britches and perhaps just a smidge or more wanting in strength.

Is it not a colossal waste of time to have a 50 year old rag arm out there running an NFL offense?

I keep forgetting about Charles Tapper. Should be a pretty solid player for us. I think our defense will be a pleasant surprise this year.
Big Nate described him so far as "special"

I can't wait to see him.

I think they like his speed and length but thus far I am not a fan.

Hate to hear your thoughts on our prized free agent addition Benson Mayowa at a staggering 240lbs projected for RDE, from that view he is a undersized LB to some.

I do not think they care about his weight if he can get upfield and capture the edge.

They will line him out wide and let him hunt!

Okoye needs to move to RT as of yesterday. As an OL his strength and agility could be special, but at DT not so much.

Brings to mind Mark Tuinea......he was special. Aikman once said that who he wants beside him in a street fight/dark alley

Since you alluded to McAdoo's measurables as being something special, I thought it relevant to mention that they weren't all special.

Like most of us, I know little of McAdoo so far with respect to what he's doing performance-wise. Preseason promises to be invaluable in educating us all in that respect. The same might be said of Mayowa, irrespective of his weight. I'm sure we'll all enjoy being enlightened. As far as Mayowa being "prized," I'd venture to say that aspect remains to be seen but I'm confident his play will speak for itself in due time.

Nevertheless, there are assuredly attributes that bear attention other than weight, if it pleases you to hear as much, although physicality is and will always be a factor in football and bulk plays a prominent role in it. I won't knock either of them, as long as their performances support their being remotely worthy of praise . . . sound fair enough?
