Seahawks release Shaun Alexander

I'm comfortable w/ Stanback and Austin returning kicks for us.
That's cool. If I can find a better option I am always going to look for it. If either of them were Devin Hester I might feel differently than I do.

All that talk of Eddie George reminds me of the nickname someone on here gave him -- "The Corpse."

:laugh2:

That's Punt Returns, I'm talking about Kickoff Returns.

Late 2nd Round---Chris Johnson if he's there (assuming we had not taken a RB yet)

Having Alexander makes drafting a RB less important. If we sign him, and I'm not denying it is tempting, it virtually means that we either have to get a Skyler Green late or we'd be using an early pick on a guy who is 3rd string.

I don't care for that idea.

signing a declining RB makes getting fresh legs in here less important? if Eddie George, um, Shaun Alexander is signed at all, it would be for a 1-year deal

I would bring him in. Give him a mil and incentives that he will never reach. He may not be the back he once was but he can certainly be a third down back and give MB3 a break since we are going that way anyway.

It would also not change our draft strategy so we could still take a RB.

I would love to have a Mendenhal fall to us.

Alexander would be good for him to learn from.

I was wondering, do you think the Bucs will release Simms? I know they gave up on Plummer so they are down to 5 QBs I think.

Garcia
Simms
Griese
McKown
Gradkowski

Not saying we should get him (I would if it was McKown. I was pissed when they signed him.), just wondering.

Simms is nowhere near One Buc and I don't expect him to be. He deserves a chance...one of the nicest players I've met. He needs a vertical offense (ie. Minnesota) to really blossom. He's just been playing with a stacked deck ever since he arrived in Tampa since, from what I've read, he was a Rich McKay pick. I'd like to see what he could do with another shot somewhere else.

Yeah, Luke McCown looks like he could be a franchise QB in the making, again IF he gets a shot. I think Gradkowski and Simms will be gone after this season with Simms leaving first. Gruden seems to be a coach that doesn't enjoy coaching young QB's. I know that's obvious, but he could have gems right here in the backyard if he did something other than being a glorified offensive coordinator.

Tell you the truth, I'd like to see Simms in Dallas as a 3rd stringer or so...at the very least he could be camp fodder. I'd like to see what he could do with some talent on offense.

EDIT: As far as Alexander goes...if Dallas didn't have Barber, I'd say bring him in, but he's really nothing more than a slower, less-elusive MBIII in my eyes. Man...did he hit a wall or what? It could be a rut in his career. Not comparing, but I remember Emmitt going through the same type of setback in '96 when he had two bad ankles.

I wouldn't mind him as 3rd string QB at all.

Really? you think they are the same type of player? I can't imagine two more polar opposite types of back. Alexander was always called a soft running back and the knock on Barber is he runs way too hard.

Just say no. Alexander would take up a roster spot and cost more than a lower round pick. And a RB taken in the upper rounds is probably better now and certainly better in 2-3 years.

I doubt he'd be happy w/ (or agree to) that though. There are enough teams (minnesota, Miami, Atlanta to name a few) desperate for QBs where he may be able to play right away.
