It'll be interesting to see whether or not we can re-sign McClain to a resasonable contract. In terms of paying inside linebackers, it'll be difficult to place McClain anywhere long term. I think they'll have to get pretty creative with his contract, at least giving them an easy out.

What's also interesting within the top 32 paid inside linebackers in the game (average salary) 9 of them are on the IR (the 33rd is also on the IR).

Moving Lee to the will should help him stay healthier. Having McClain may have a double benefit, and then we'll have Hitchens behind McClain.

It might be wise to simply sign McClain to another one year deal and see where things go from there. I wish the team would do more of these two year deals with these free agents rather than one year deals.

Yea, I think Carter is a lock to be gone and we will look to start Lee-McClain-Durant with Hitchens backing up each position.

I wouldn't worry about McClain leaving. He's missed as many games as he's been in.

Word is McClain is waiting to see what happens with the coaching staff before committing to the Cowboys beyond next year.

i think we can get Ro signed but i also think we will sign durant. although i suspect the starters next year will be Lee-Ro-Hitch and durant as the backup
the nice thing is all of them can play multiple position except maybe Ro
we will still need some depth there with a couple having injury histories s another lb in the draft might not be a bad thing with durant getting some age on him

Why would Durant be a backup? He was our best defender prior to his injury.

Keeping Durant and Lee would be interesting. Durant was looking great at Will but is getting up there, Lee has never played the position and has had 3 ACL surgeries.

That's the way I see it to, although it's not hard to envision. With Hitchens showing he can be counted on, it makes it less necessary to re-sign Carter, which is the way the draft is supposed to work but hasn't very often in Dallas.

That doesn't mean I think Hitchens is a better player than Carter, just that he makes Carter expendable. If we hadn't picked up McClain and Durant hadn't shined, I'd want to re-sign Carter, but Durant will likely be cheaper and McClain is a better player, so they take precedent.

Let me correct that. He's been limited in more games than he's played.

If you look at everyone in the NFL, I'd bet most of them have been playing with some sort of small, nagging injury. That's life in the NFL.

I understand what you're saying, but Rolando missed, what 1 whole game (Rams)? I know that he missed the Jags game, but he was there and dressed out to play if the team needed him. So had the team needed him, he would have only missed that Rams game.

FWIW, Lee and Durant are the same age at 28, though Durant turns 29 Nov. 21. And Lee doesn't turn 29 until next July. Either way, neither are spring chickens in football years.

This is the 3rd time he's torn that ACL. He's only played 46 of 80 games in his career after this year.

No... That's not exactly right BDC.

He partially tore the ACL in his left knee in 2009, but the ACL was never replaced.

It (the ACL in his left knee) probably hasn't been up to snuff ever since.

durant is a fine player but i think hitch is going to develope into a very good player who is also much younger. nothing against durant, i loved when we signed him and he has played very well this year. i just think hitch is going to be a good one and the backup lb is very likely to play alot with most of our lb's having injury histories

It's pretty common place for bad teams to overpay guys like this, especially if he shows something in the playoffs.

I doubt Sean Lee every plays a full season for the Cowboys, if he returns at all.

I think you give a competitor like Lee the benefit of the doubt, and bring him back next year. He's nearly a player/coach as it is, and may end up a LB coach in the future. Could benefit from splitting time, and might get through the year unscathed. Considering that, I'd offer Carter a one year contract to see if his commitment, football IQ, and durability will continue to improve.

Neither Carter or McClain has 'earned' a huge contract IMO. They have flashed potential, but they are still inconsistent and have missed a lot of games over the years. It's a good problem to have with multiple options available with Lee, RoMc, Carter, Durant, Hitchens and the draft.

This team can live without Lee and Carter IMO. Neither can stay healthy. Carter getting hurt this season has killed his play. He was burnin there for a bit.

The 3rd time? Nah dude is done. Needs to hang it up.

He could give it 1 last try and go to Germany, like Kobe, and see what they could do.
