I'd guess that every team in the league would like to do more 1/2 year deals but the problem is, players and agents don't. It's not a want to thing, on behalf of the team. It's a can't do thing IMO.

Word is McClain is waiting to see what happens with the coaching staff before committing to the Cowboys beyond next year.

Crazy that a guy that was home on his couch has any sort of leverage

Is Spencer Lee related to Sean? He won PA states last year as a freshman, and also a Cadet World Wrestling title.

Just sign them all. Hope three of them are healthy for every game.

Carter and Ro will get a chance to prove their worth in the coming weeks(both of them need to start bringing it every play and in practice). I would prefer the Cowboys kept both of them, they're the most physical of our LBs and this defense needs some physicality,,,

I think you give a competitor like Lee the benefit of the doubt, and bring him back next year. He's nearly a player/coach as it is, and may end up a LB coach in the future. Could benefit from splitting time, and might get through the year unscathed. Considering that, I'd offer Carter a one year contract to see if his commitment, football IQ, and durability will continue to improve.

The way his contract is structured he's coming back for at least 1 more year.

I'd love to give him the benefit of the doubt. When healthy, he's one of the best at his position. Still, his inability to stay healthy doesn't give me great hope that he'll last a season. I don't even know if he'll make it to the regular season. Hope I'm wrong, but he seems too fragile for the NFL.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on the ACL tear in the left knee. He suffered a slight ACL tear in 2009 that may not have healed properly. In other words the ACL wasn't replaced. So it could have "snapped" at any point.

This is 100% true. The only reason why McClain came back into football was because of Jason Garrett.

It'll be interesting to see whether or not we can re-sign McClain to a resasonable contract. In terms of paying inside linebackers, it'll be difficult to place McClain anywhere long term. I think they'll have to get pretty creative with his contract, at least giving them an easy out.

What's also interesting within the top 32 paid inside linebackers in the game (average salary) 9 of them are on the IR (the 33rd is also on the IR).

Moving Lee to the will should help him stay healthier. Having McClain may have a double benefit, and then we'll have Hitchens behind McClain.

It might be wise to simply sign McClain to another one year deal and see where things go from there. I wish the team would do more of these two year deals with these free agents rather than one year deals.

I am not as concerned with McClain resigning as I was 4 weeks ago. Hitchens is clearly better at the Mike and I think he is close to being starter. Its not natural for LB to come in his rookie year and player all 3 LB spots and see no drop-off. I also not sure what McClain injuries are about...maybe being out of football too long or maybe guy who has issues playing banged up during rigors of NFL season. I would have plan B & C ready when it comes to that MLB spot. I also think teams would be cautious with bigger contract for McClain as his missed time will only fuel the perceived commitment issues he carries around.

LOL Its not because of Garrett and thats the first I heard someone mentioning that. He is willing to wait and see if the defensive coaches and Marinelli are resigned. I don't think this has anything to do with Garrett at all.

Yes it does. Again, the ONLY reason he came out of retirement is to play for Jason Garrett. To make a long story short, McClain has/does not trust many people in his life. Not family, friends, etc. The one person he trusts is Nick Saban who highly recommended McClain to Garrett. That's the only reason he came back.

I disagree. Where's your source that said he came back because of Garrett?

Last I heard he was thankful for Jerry giving him another opportunity to play football. I never heard him mention Garrett.

McClain sits out for one game and everything thinks he's not worth signing. SMH.

Maybe we can talk about Hitchens deserving to be in the HOF.

I can't say specifically, but people close to the situation. And yes, Jerry had a big impact on him coming back as well.

I think your mixing things up. McClain came here because Garrett spotted somewhere in a camp and was impressed with him. Thus the trade was made to get him.

Now that he's been performing beyond expectations he doesn't want to sign until he knows that the coaches are going to be back. I'm figuring he wants stability and likes playing here. This is more of testament to Marinelli and the defensive coaches more so than Garrett. I don't think Garrett coaches defense and lets Marinelli handle the defense.
