With him... they hold teams to an average of less than 21 points per game. Without him, 30+ points per game.https://twitter.com/Marcus_Mosher/status/917406294591655936 …

The #Cowboys have built their entire defense around a 31-year old LB that has struggled to stay on the field. Think about that...

We all know he's great and the heart and soul of this defense. The bad thing is our defense is all hinged on him. That's never good. We never have any competent LBs to go with him. When we lose him, our defense goes to junk.

That is why this fan is rooting for the Jerry greetings for the Bowman visit tomorrow...and a true cover cornerback via the next draft.

2015 and 2016 he was very reliable. Seems a little wrong to dump on a guy that misses time after proving himself reliable.

C'mon, the purpose was to show the tenuous thread of the entire performance by the defense with a linebacker that is aging and can be out for injuries...and this:

  1. Despite racking up 10 tackles (seven solos), Jaylon Smith was a total liability in both run and pass coverage on Sunday. The Rams singled him out in the passing game and repeatedly targeted him, which made him unable to make an impact.
  2. According to Pro Football Focus, the Rams targeted Smith seven times in coverage and he allowed six catches for 68 yards. He just wasn't able to stick with the Rams' tight ends and running backs and Dallas' defense got exposed because of his lack of coverage ability.
  3. In the run game, Smith was stuck on blocks all day and never made a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. According to Pro Football Focus, Smith is one of the worst-run defenders in the entire league. His average tackle came nearly 10 yards down the field on Sunday. He just couldn't impact the game at all as a run or pass defender.
  4. With Sean Lee and Anthony Hitchens out of the game, Dallas needed more from their second-year linebacker and he just didn't provide much of anything. If Hitchens is healthy enough to play next week, he should walk into a starting role right away. It hasn't been a great debut for Smith.

We have 4 cb's set with Scandrick, Brown, Lewis, Awukie. Doubt we are gonna get another high in the draft. We need safety help much more.

Right now, I can see Lewis as the most likely to be a complete and shut down cornerback. The Giants have a cornerback, that can game after game shut down the best receiver on a team...now WHO, on the Cowboys fits that description? Want some more mediocre performing linebackers or linemen for the defense? Why label the Dallas corners to be top shelf as well? Really?

Who said that safety is still not dysfunctional as well?

How about if we just make the entire damn defense watch a lot of tape

What a concept anybody can react to plays like Sean Lee if they can read the defense not taking anything away from Lee just saying a little more homework wouldn't hurt

Care to review every other receiver he has been against, including Dez?

Standard stands, and Demaryous had a strong night against Dallas...right?

At least be in the ball park if you are actually trying to discredit a standard that does apply to defensive standards of function. By the way, how many interceptions were thrown by Denver in last night's game as well...if one isn't claiming a burn barrel privilege here?

I'll just touch upon 2016:

Week 1 vs. Dez Bryant: 1 target, zero receptions, 0:0 TD-to-INT ratio, 0.0 passer rating against.

» Week 4 vs. Stefon Diggs: 4 targets, 2 receptions for eight yards, 0:0 TD-to-INT ratio, 56.3 passer rating against.

» Week 5 vs. Jordy Nelson: 4 targets, 2 receptions for 29 yards, 0:0 TD-to-INT ratio, 74.0 passer rating against.

» Week 7 vs. Kenny Britt: 5 targets, 2 receptions for 29 yards, 0:0 TD-to-INT ratio, 59.6 passer rating against.

» Week 10 vs. A.J. Green: 7 targets, 4 receptions for 30 yards, 0:0 TD-to-INT ratio, 67.6 passer rating against.

» Week 12 vs. Terrelle Pryor: 5 targets, 1 reception for 14 yards, 0:0 TD-to-INT ratio, 39.6 passer rating against.

» Week 13 vs. Antonio Brown: 4 targets, 4 receptions for 40 yards, 1:0 TD-to-INT ratio, 147.9 passer rating against.

» Week 14 vs. Dez Bryant: 6 targets, 1 reception for 10 yards, 0:1 TD-to-INT ratio, 0.0 passer rating against.

This is how a top cornerback affects a good defense:

With the numbers clearly making Jenkins' case as an elite corner -- at least outside of the game against Antonio Brown, who routinely beats just about any CB -- I turned to the tape to crosscheck this notion. Since top corners are judged by their performance against Pro Bowl-caliber players, I wanted to see how Jenkins held up against Bryant before confirming his status as an elite player. Looking at the Coaches Film, I noticed that Jenkins followed Bryant all over the field, except in the slot, during both of their games. He lined up opposite the Cowboys' WR1 on 64.1 and 69.4 percent of the plays, respectively, in Week 1 and Week 14. Jenkins held Dak Prescott to a 0.0 passer rating on throws in his direction. Talk about a shutdown corner ...

From a playing standpoint, Jenkins displayed impressive skills in press and off coverage during both games against the Cowboys, exhibiting a keen understanding of leverage and downfield positioning. Jenkins effectively utilized his help (linebackers and safeties) while taking away Bryant's best routes (slant, skinny post, dig and back-shoulder fade). Most importantly, he disrupted Bryant's timing and route running while frustrating the temperamental pass catcher with his suffocating tactics.

Keep in mind: Jenkins was on the coverage for both of the Prescott's interceptions last Sunday, and he knocked the ball out of Bryant's hands for a fumble with the game on the line. Considering how corners are judged by their ability to snuff out top pass catchers, Jenkins' performances against Bryant and others should put the Giants' CB1 in the conversation as one of the game's very best at the position.

*(again, inclusive for 2016)

This is how his absence affected the Giants in this year's game against Detroit:

Without Jenkins, the Giants’ depth in the secondary was thinned out, with too much of a strain put on Eli Apple, the other starting cornerback, and former Steeler Ross Cockrell was forced to come off the bench as the third cornerback. Cockrell held up in coverage but was not strong in run support, an area Jenkins excels.

That’s last year. And Dez should’ve had 2-3 more interference calls on him. I think we have guys with as much potential as Jenkins. Think what you want buddy
