Sean Payton Question (while in Big D)?

actually its not brees. or lets say not just brees. that OL is fantastic. look at how much time brees gets in the pocket to survey the field even when they are blitzed. that OL is playing out of this world and brees obviously putting the ball on the money.
Valid point. And they are without Jamaal Brown as well, who might be their best lineman.

They did a good job getting some good young sleepers in the draft in Jahri Evans, Jermon Bushrod and Carl Nicks.

It just goes to show you what quality deep scouting for the line will do. If there is one thing I wish our scouting department could improve upon is identifying young lineman. None of these players were heralded stars from big schools and they didn't cost high draft choices. Nicks was close as he went to Nebraska, but had behavioral issues. Evans and Bushrod came from tiny Division II schools like Bloomburg and Towson (ala Larry Allen). The team simply recognized the value of depth, drafted developmental athletes and did a great job of getting them ready very quickly.

Payton didn't exactly get raving reviews while in Dallas IIRC. There were quite a few people who didn't care for our offense at the time as it sputtered. A lot was the quarterbacking and the overall talent base. Having Brees helps him some, but I think he's responsible for nurturing Brees into the quarterback he is right now.

He was the passing game coordinator, Carthon and later Sparano handled the running game. That was the setup under Coach Parcells and it continued with Haley after he was gone. I do not doubt Parcells' conservative nature lended itself to keeping us from seeing a good deal of Payton has done in New Orleans. It would have been nice to see what he could have done with Garrett's level of autonomy.

I cant ever remember a time when the Cowboy fan base has been happy with the playcalling.

This is also true.

What you see Garrett catching now from fans is very much like what Payton got, but to a greater degree. It might be a touch more valid as he undoubtedly more free to basically run the offense as he sees fit. He certainly doesn't have Phillips micromanaging the offense over his head.

The difference in offensive talent that he had in Dallas and what he has in NO right now cannot even be compared. He is doing great things with that talent, but the real reason NO has turned the corner is the new defensive coordinator, Greg Williams.

I'm so glad Danny Boy ran him out of Washington in favor of Jim Zorn.
