Sean Spence's return from ACL/LCL injury: 2 years

I was just stating what was in the article. They sure didn't say he had a relapse on his knee.
Why be such a smartarse about it?
Anyway, Oct 16 to the end of December (when the reg. season ended) is not an entire year.

He is just trying to be the first to say Smith wont make it. Putting up info about an injury that was definitely more severe to try and make it sound like we really screwed up. At least he isnt like the guy trying to say it is fact Jaylon wont ever play.

Thats a bad comparison. Luck hurt his finger the last game of the season. Now if Luck needed Tommy John surgery and had nerve damage in shoulder then it would be a good comparison.

Yes. That's what I was saying.

Guess I should've said if he was severely hurt. I didn't even know he hurt his finger.

I was just looking. I read that Spence tore his LCL which allows the knee to dislocate pretty terribly. Nothing specific. Tried to look up the video which was described as gruesome but no dice. Jaylon's doesn't look that bad compared to others I have seen.

LCL holds the fibia in place as well. Between that, the kneecap disloacation, and just the torque and compression the knee went through its apples and oranges to what Smith dealt with. Smith basically stepped on the leg for a half second after he was pushed which stretched the nerve.

That one and the Lattimore injury are just gruesome in comparison.

Sean Spence has a similar injury to Jaylon Smith. If you watch the videos of the two, they're almost exactly the same. Both developed foot drop as a result of peroneal nerve issues.

* August 30, 2012 -- Spence suffered a torn ACL and LCL and dislocated his kneecap during the final preseason game. More devastating was the damage to his peroneal nerve.

* February, 2013 -- Nerve doctors informed the Steelers that Spence will never be the same.

* April 25, 2013 -- Linebackers coach Keith Butler, just after drafting inside linebacker Vince Williams, told reporters, "It will be miraculous if (Spence) does come back. It will be miraculous if he comes back next year."

* August 7, 2013 -- I told a re-habbing Spence that one of these days he's going to make me a great story. "I know," he said.

* October 16, 2013 -- Spence practiced for the first time since the injury, and one of his trainers called his showing "phenomenal." But Spence broke a finger and his recovery was halted.

* September 28, 2014 -- Spence will start at the mack inside linebacker position against Tampa Bay in place of injured rookie Ryan Shazier.

Obviously, no two players are alike, but I have seen people say he will be ready by July, and I just don't feel like that is the case. This is the closest example of any player having a similar injury in the NFL.

That's a long time !!!!

Ouch. Did you get back on the horse or give up skiing?

I haven't given it up, but I also haven't gone skiing again to date.

I live in South Carolina and there's just too much ice at the closest mountains I'd go to.

They say when you break a bone it will heal back stronger, but I'm not putting it to the test at those places.

Tony Romo's left shoulder also gives me pause.

I was in a coma for around two weeks after the accident, so I have no memory of it. When I came around, the first thing I remember asking was if Barry Switzer had been fired yet.

How old where you at the time?

24.

December 1997.

My fall was within a week or so of Sonny Bono passing away on the slopes.
Nice story....there's a reason why Jaylon's not going on Injured Reserve.

But hindsight is 20/20.. That's like saying would you take Tom Brady with your first round pick the year he came out instead of the sixth...

Its a gamble, I agree

However the team thinks Jaylon is going to be "special" and its worth the risk............time will tell if they are correct or not.

Time will tell. My point was that Dallas is not in the position to take that risk. But sometimes even wrong decision turns out right.

I always though Willis McGahee's was one of the worst I saw...his leg was just flapping in the wind, yet he had a pretty good career. He did not play his first year in the league but had back to back 1000 yd seasons his next two years.

Lattimore was it? Drafted by 49er but never played a down. Knee was shredded. Very unfortunately.

Yeah, Lattimore's was awful...but he made it back and still tried the NFL. He had multiple surgeries and injuries though.
