What possible reason could there be to cut young players?

Cutting Parnell is the worse idea that I've seen on this board.

Parnell is hurt and they talk about him on Talking Cowboys alot when they talk about players that ar eunderacheiving, and say Parnell just looks bad. If free were to get hurt they would be in big trouble.

Durant did nothing this yr. Injured
Everette Brown was on the team for 3/4 of the yr and he didnt have not one single tackle.
Corey Irvin is nobody
Frank Kearse was a player Marinelli didnt want.

Just because a player is young doesnt mean theyre any good.

I think networking has gone on since early history and will continue into the foreseeable future. I don't think anyone is doing anything illegal.

idk i think the repercussions if someone got caught would be extremely harsh and prevent anything like this from happening. i wouldn't mind it though if it happened! take one for the team romo!

This is fair. I have no idea what happened to Parnell this year. He almost had to be injured to have fallen off the wagon like that. Or something else going on to drop play off.

He'd have to make a promise to get Romo a job on the staff or elsewhere after he retires; assuming he wants that or a business opportunity. He's not risking putting money on the table or anything he could get caught for. You're talking personal favors.

He had a quad injury early and never really recovered. For whatever reason

Because 31TDs and 10INTs from a franchise QB warrants one? :D

And. It will allow romos TEAM to get better in other places which might allow romo to get into the playoffs....

How many millions does romo want when it means he is sacrificing a possible playoff run.....??? Wait, don't answer.

AJ mccarron doesnt do naything for me but we should definitely draft a QB.

AJ doesn't do anything for me, either.

His play last night was pretty underwhelming.

Sort of a game manager.

We need a QB that can create with his arm and his feet.

Kyle Orton isn't going to help, either.

He's not a guy who will scare anybody.

To me..the offense next year is going to be in a tremendous disadvantage.

Romo is NOT going to buy time with his feet as in the past.

Hes going to go down at the first sign of getting hit or throw quickly to get it out..

All of which means less scoring and that means less wins.

If Brown, Irvin and Kearse are under contract, there is no reason not to bring them to training camp. Only 51 players count against the cap in the off-season. If you remove them, other players just move up into the top 51. The savings under the cap would be very minimal. Irvin counts 730k against the cap. If you remove him, you move a guy at 495k up as #51. You temporarily save 230k between March and the beginning of the season. If they decide to cut Irvin in training camp the cost is Zero and you didn't really save anything by cutting him early.

How does anybody know that Marinelli didn't want Kearse? Let me guess, Talking Cowboys...

Parnell was injured during training camp. He is not currently injured. It is a league requirement to list injured players every week of the season. He was not on the list.

I've watched every snap that Parnell has ever taken with the Cowboys in both Preseason and the regular season. I've also watched him at training camp.

Anybody that thinks Parnell can't play is an idiot. He is physically superior to Free but has minimal experience. It was reported that Callahan preferred Parnell over Free last season but that management wanted to stay with the more experienced Free. The compromise was to have them alternate series in the final 4 games.

The plan was to have Parnell challenge Free in training camp, but he was injured and only played in 1 preseason game. He was visibly limping in that game, but physically dominated the Bengals rookie DE. He also blew up All-Pro DT Geno Atkins. It was reported on the radio this season that the OL coaches really like Parnell but that management again prefers to stay with the more experienced Free. They liked Parnell enough that they were going to cut Free if he didn't take a pay cut.

It was reported on the radio this season that the OL coaches really like Parnell but that "management" prefers to stay with the more experienced Free. I'm not clear if "management is Garrett or Jerry.

Summary: You want to bring as many young players to training camp as possible. There TC roster limit is 90. Why cut inexpensive players now or in March when you have to assemble a 90 man roster in July?

We're a play away from Weems or Parnell so no I don't cut the guy. He's our swing tackle. I suppose they could like Weems enough to trade or cut him for salary reasons but I don't know if that is applicable. I don't care to look up their contracts.

Parnell has terrific physical ability.

Do you remember Jerry talking about him having the best "punch" ever measured by Woicik? The measurement being speed and strength not just weight room strength. Why would Jerry know this info? Because the OL coaches were campaigning to start Parnell over Free (radio speculation).

I did this over the caps calculator

We know Where Dallas will be drfting and we know who will be coaching the defense. We know what Stephen has said. The front 7 will be overhauled.

I know this wont come over lightly, i dont like it because he is one of my favorite Cowboys.

Cuts
Demarcus Ware
Miles Austin June 1
Jeremy Parnell
Justin Durant
Everrette Brown
Corey Irvin
Frank Kearse

Restructure
Tony Romo (If i was Jerry i would ask him to take a paycut instead of restructure)
Brandon Carr
Jasin Witten
Sean Lee
Orlando Scandrick
Doug Free

Tendering
Dan Bailey W/ a RD2 tender
Chris Jones Exclusive Rights Tender

Doing this will give Dallas 11.3 Mill in capspace Thats taking out being over the cap and including the dead money. Thats decent money but only 5.8 mil of that will be available to the Cowboys before June1(Austin cut).

If i was Jerry i would extend Orton and take his base and spread it out over the extention that would free up about 2 mil. Orton has to know he isnt going to be a starter anymore. He could have security and being in a state that is tax lenient. Taking Dallas back to 7.8 mil before June 1.

The good thing about this is Dallas will already be 20 mil under the cap in 2015, even with Romo's big salary.

So come freeagency i dont expect the Cowboys to do much of anything.

So Dallas goes into the draft with Selvie|Crawford|Hayden|Wilson on the DL. So naturally This draft will be a big DL draft for Dallas. Crawford should be ready to go come OTAs and Im sure Marinelli will make him a DT. He probably wouldve started next to Hatcher this yr anyways. Crawford is solid vs the run and can occupy blockers. So i think He would play the role that Hayden played this yr. The 1 tech. Selvie im sure theyd want him to be a rotation guy. But he did very good this yr. They should give him a shot.Hayden and Wilson should be depth. Ive heard Broaddus saying Marinelli really like Wilson.

DL isnt the only need though. Dallas needs to find a Safety or Wilcox or Heath need to speed up that development. Think Dallas found something in Wilber. The guy played really good the more he played OLB. And Hollomon found his nitch and thats in the middle. Good depth with him because while his best posistion will be inside he can play all 3 spots. On offense i really think Dallas needs to draft a QB. If one of the RD1 guys fell to him i wouldnt be mad if they jumped on him. Only way i think a QB has a chance to reach Dallas is if Hundley declares. Dallas needs depth at Guard, and WR.

So the Draft comes and with AdamJT prediction of 4 RD& comp picks will help because there isnt a team in the NFL that drafts better at the end of the draft.

RD1 Kony Ealy DE Missouri
Moving up draft boards from end of the 1st to Middle. Not out of the question that he could move up into the top 10. But he provides a whole lot of passrush for Dallas. But can play the run just as good. And has the size and speed to be a every down RDE.

RD2 Timmy Jernigan DT Florida State
Protypical DT that Marinelli target. Quick off the snap and the ability to split and shed blocks.

RD3 Dion Bailey S USC
Kiffin guy, S that understands and fits the tampa 2. Playmaker and type of safety with range that would allow Church to play up in the box when needed.

RD4 AJ McCarron QB Bama
Big QB with a big arm. But can play within the system. Can sit for 2 yrs and start 2016. Or until romos back finally gives out. Whichever comes first.

RD5 Josh Mauro DT/DE Stanford
A guy who can and has played inside and outside on the DL, Strong and smart with the ability to get pressure from inside or on the edge.

RD6 Jordan Zumwalt OLB UCLA
Plays strong against the run, depth but will develop and will start at some point within the next couple yrs.

RD7 Ben Gardner DE/DT Stanford
Another one of them players that played inside and outside. Played in 8 games before getting hurt but Had 7.5 sacks before he got hurt.

Comp Picks

Ken Bishop DT N Illinois
Lavelle Westbrooks CB Georgia Southern
Austin Wentworth T Fresno State
Silas Redd RD USC

I like it

I know what you are saying.

And yes it would be better if you discontinued this discussion.

No one is entitled to speak for another and you certainly aren't for me. Anything said needs to go to PMs.

Which is against the salary cap rules and is cheating.

Taking a cap number reduction for a future job is the same as taking direct money or a promise of money like Drunkenmiller did.

I don't know who was doing what but I know we both liked what we saw from Parnell last year. I have no idea what went south. I do know that at times he just appeared to be asleep at the wheel. I'm sure he's engaged but he just didn't move when he needed to last year....at times.

You obviously put a lot of effort into this but there are some glaring problems with it.

Where to start...

Romo is not taking a paycut.

Parnell isn't getting cut, period. He was injured during training camp, has potential, and is the only depth we have at Tackle. And he's cheap. He's staying and he could very well beat out Free next year.

I don't know if I'd restructure Witten, but that's more a personal opinion. I really don't want to be pushing money into the later years of his contract but depending on the numbers, contract structures, but possible we could do it.

We'll sign at least one FA on the DL. Book that. Personally, I see two signings, a big name and a mid-tier FA. I'd guess a 1-technique will be picked up in FA, Hayden played as well as he could but he was probably the worst starting 1-technique in the NFL.

Crawford is not playing the 1-technique... I really have no idea where this idea he even came from. That'd be a complete disaster. He's a SDE that could be bumped inside in nickel if he displays some pass rush.

Draft looks okay. Obviously going to change completely by April and the FA's we sign. I think we take an athletic LB early. I watched exactly 0 USC games this year but have read up on Dion Bailey, the combine is going to be big for him. Last thing we need is another "athletic" but not great safety prospect. If he turns out to be a true center field safety it could open up a lot of options for us, especially in our nickel package, possibly moving Church to Will, etc.

I think we can all agree at least its going to be a defense heavy offseason. Thank god.

Nice work and thanks. Seems like we already have McCarron on our team... Orton.
No issues with your list.

If Parnell was anything Free would not be a Cowboy right now.
