I don't know who was doing what but I know we both liked what we saw from Parnell last year. I have no idea what went south. I do know that at times he just appeared to be asleep at the wheel. I'm sure he's engaged but he just didn't move when he needed to last year....at times.
I wish they would keep the preseason games available on the Coaches film, but they take it down when the season starts. He was pummeling people in the 1 preseason game that he played. It was fun to watch. He drove one DL all the way to the sideline. He blew up All-Pro Geno Atkins. He did all of that despite limping back to the huddle between plays.
You can see him occasionally during the season as a blocking TE. The guy is strong as a ox. It's very obvious when he lines up next to Free. Free usually gets pushed back while Parnell is driving his man the other direction. Parnell's man seems to end up on the ground on the majority of plays.
I also like that if there is ever any type of skirmish, he seems to show up. He came off the sideline and was wound up when they were getting into it with the Skins, near the end of the game. All of the starting OL were also in on that skirmish except you could see Free walking away. There was a play against the Eagles where I think it was Murray getting into it with an Eagles DL and you see #78 flash past the camera. He is a blocker on field goals and extra points. There was a game last year where the other team came through and had a late hit on either the kicker or the holder. Parnell was mad as heck about it and was ready to kill somebody but Tyron held him back.
If they would start him, I believe that his path would be similar to Ron Leary. Leary started the season having zero prior snaps in real NFL games. You could see his physical ability right away but he made mistakes. As the season progressed, he made less and less mistakes. In the 2nd Skins game he had only 2 less than ideal snaps in the entire game and even those 2 where not totally his fault. He allowed penetration on on of the goal line runs but Fred's man had burst through and tripped Leary. Leary still pinned his man to the ground. On the other play, he was starting to lose his block after Romo held the ball for 4 seconds. I don't really consider it a bad block if the QB holds the ball for more than 3 seconds.
I saw posts early in the season that Leary was horrible. Now Leary was named to the All NFC East team.
