He plays in a 4-3 now at ND and has the last two years and one of his strengths is coverage. If anything, the issue with him is taking on and shedding blockers.

You're right, I forgot they switch to a hybrid 43.

I love Jaylon Smith. He is a great kid, smart and an incredible talent. I don't think he transfers well to a 4-3 defense though and definitely not one where he'll be asked to play zone and cover extensively.

If we are sticking to this scheme, we need to get guys that fit it.

exactly which is why i would go go Jack over him all day.

Except what tex said wasn't accurate. Smith plays in a 4-3 now. ND doesn't play a 3-4 and they dont really play a hybrid 4-3 either now. Their base alignment is a 4-3. They do move Smith around a bit, however.

And one of Smith's strengths is being able to drop and cover. The knock on him, coming to this season, was he struggled at times getting off blocks.

Love the idea of trading down and grabbing Elliot. I've been thinking about it for a couple of weeks. Also love the Miller pick. The guy has surprisingly exceptional hands and is a spectacular athlete after he catches the ball--a steal in the third round. Gimme Jeremy Cash with one of those second-rounders, though, please!

Need to draft more playmakers on both sides of ball. Elliott and Miller meet that criteria.
