Draft is strong at DT this year. Not opposed to an upgrade here that can penetrate and absorb the double team.

I would like McClain back, but we spent a lot on Thornton last year to man the 1 tech. I would think McClain is looking for a similar deal. Based on his injury history it may be best to move on if the price is in that range. I would certainly entertain a 2 to 2.5 million a year 3 year contract, otherwise we need to look towards the draft.

In addition if the Cowboys add more bodies to the DE spot, the pretend DE's, T. Crawford and Irving will move inside.

take the comp pick

If he signs elsewhere for a large enough contract then yeah.

I'm just doubtful that he'll get one that big... Big enough for the Cowboys not to be interested, but not big enough to get them a comp pick.

Yep, hes going to be a cap casualtie. We have some depth at DT. Cant afford to resign Mcclain. Who knows his value anyhow? Hes been hurt most of his stay here in Dallas.

I think the Cowboys are only "lukewarm" on the guy.

He played well in '16 for the most part but offering him a 4 year deal could backfire with his injury history.

I think we're OK on the inside without him. Thornton is a good player who needed some time to adjust, and I think he'll be fine as a two-down lineman. A combination of Tyrone Crawford, Maliek Collins and David Irving will be used inside on passing downs, with Collins also able to chip in at 1-tech on non-pass plays.

McClain got as much work as he did partially because Crawford had to step in at end. Then, Irving had to ... although I believe he will continue to receive some playing time there as part of the rotation.
