Newman is the only guy back there who is really good blanket cover guy. I have been saying it for weeks.

Henry-good break to the ball but definitely prefers to play with cushion. He will give up yards. mediocre speed for corner.
Hamlin - more of a head hunter. will bite on the fake.
RW-feet too slow. gets turned around. also looks confused sometimes in the coverage scheme.
newman - great cover guy.
reeves-young fast player, but probably a JAG.

If we had one more stellar cover player we would be ok, but without it, we have a risk of giving up 400 yds every week to good QBs.

This is Reeves 4th season. And he's played significant time in 10 games. Yet he's not quite putting it together. He's got great speed, but I wouldn't expect much from him longterm.

That's why we play zone. Newman is the only one right now who can shut someone down man to man.

So why not let Newman play his man and have others help out in other places instead of keeping both safeties deep all game and giving up easy completions over and over?

Your mission if you choose to accept it is to convert these morons into functioning members of the fanbase.

Teach them about playing to strengths, masquerading weaknesses.....

I think everyone realizes we play soft zone coverage because our talent dictates it. That's sort of the frustrating part.

some think Roy just decides out of the blue that he's going to be playing zone and give a cushion to keep the play in front of him

Not so.

Many of us realize that Parcells archaic defensive schemes were just holding all this amazing talent back.

we played alot of that set in the first half with roy on the sideline. He was coming out and henry was coming in and hamlin played centerfield.

lot of talk about it against the giants and alot of people said we didnt do that but we did it a bunch today in the first half and they still completed passes.

Everyone is so worried about yards, but the difference in the game was us forcing them to kick a field goal on a drive where they had 2nd and 1 and then 3rd and 1 and our pass defense stopped them both times. They kicked a field goal to make it 21-16.

that was the difference in the game. You can't blow everyone out and good quarterbacks are going to throw for some yards, but somewhere you have to make a stand and today we did.

Parcells was just an honest to god idiot. If your secondary isn't good enough to play man coverage consistently, that doesn't mean you stay in a base 3-4. STUPID.

Wade actually attempts to mask our weaknesses. And by and large it works.

The only difference between this year and last year is Ellis and Hamlin.

Amen. It wasn't that the players weren't that good - it was that the scheme was outdated and exposed by Sean Payton.

And now we get to see these players unleashed...it's like a pheonix.

And completely different schemes.

Which all lead to much better stats. And more wins.

Yes we won the game BUT there is no way anybody can look that game and say the defensive scheme worked.

Campbell missed open guys in the end zone the last two series. A good QB puts up 2-3 more TDs on us.

They moved the ball down the field like taking Candy from a Baby.

The defense is leaps and bounds better than last year's, despite actually not having both of corners healthy throughout the entire season.

And that's in large part due to scheme/coaching change.

When you say that the talent dictates it, I hope you're referring to the offensive prowess.

Dallas plays a lost of soft zone because without a few quick strike TDs, Dallas' offense is going to be very difficult to outscore over the long haul.

Look at Pittsburgh, they have the #1 defense by a huge margin. They also have three losses despite a quality offense. How? Today they got too aggressive defensively and gave up a few huge plays.

I love aggressive gameplanning as much as anyone but eventually the time comes for a good team to line up and smash the opponent in the mouth. Dallas sometime chooses to make the other team beat them. Today was another example of the other team not being able to.

To use a boxing analogy. Dallas knew that Washington couldn't hurt them but instead of walking through leather, they danced while winning rounds.
