With the retirement (at least as of this moment) of Tom Brady and the move of Aaron Rodgers to the jets, going into 2023 the NFC is more wide open than any season in recent memory. In my opinion, however anyone ranks the remaining QBs in the NFC, it’s fairly clear that the Cowboys have a wider lane to at least go further than they’ve gone in the last 27 seasons. This team is closer to competing for a championship than in recent years.

Seems like a great year to go “all in”, right?

So far this off-season, the Cowboys FO has done a much better job of being active. The trade for Stephon Gilmore, the restructuring of multiple big contracts to clear space, the release of Zeke, the tag being placed on Tony Pollard are all good moves IMO. It’s been good to see some of these moves happen this off-season.

Now in the rest of the off-season, we have the opportunity to see what “going for it“ can really mean. We still need major upgrades to interior DL, probably another LB, a WR, drafted RBs, and some additional help in the OL.

This off-season is off to a better start than any in recent years. But much work remains. Time to GO FOR IT! Time to make even more bold moves to get better!
Depends on Dak.

He was *not* a QB to go all in on last year. Too up and down. *Way* down.

And he is trending in the *wrong* direction.

6th? Dall was 12th.

The NFC was wide open this year…. TB was a joke. SF was led by a rookie QB who just started about 6 games ago. Philly got gifted plant of calls against that SF team down to a 12th string QB. Our QB play is what stopped us and constantly stops us.
That's BS. Up until this last year it's been the subpar play of the defense, particularly in the running game, that's been the weak link.

Proof of that is in the Cowboys history and while the skill positions get all the love like Staubach, Dorsett, Pearson, Aikman, Smith and Irvin, look at the lines for those teams.....exceptional with backups starting for other teams once they moved on.

Booger has never understood, or maybe it's accepted, that the foundation, the lines on both sides of the ball, must be solid to excel. He's follow the ball and loves skill position players because they're more marketable.

Zack Martin has been the best player on the team since he joined them but he is not marketable.
umm lots of 1st round or early round OL chosen over the last decade. more than most teams really.. at one pint last year we had Tyler, Tyron and Zach on 5 man line all 1st rounders and If that disease didnt take away Tfreds game, well wasn't he first rounder that 4 of 5 positions. Come on!! .. added peter as depth hes potential HOFer..so what all 5 need to be high picks?

he doesn't ignore that position. they said that about safety and virtually got that fixed and now DT, stop crying, they cant fix it all at once ..they missed on few DTs it happens. saying its not respected or ignored is nonsense, they have missed on players. Not many true 1t/NT in the draft where we pick and again many other positions are being replaced 17-20% yearly tunrover. not many players at all left from 2016 or even 2020 including coaches its always in flux.

What are they using as a rating system? Those figures don't appear to make sense. Who put this together?

He ignored it before 2011, when he proudly pronounced that you don't need a good OL if you have a mobile QB. Dude tried to make an OL out of late rounders and cheap FA's and UFA's. It was very sad.

People are getting too excited due to a couple of trades that the Cowboys don't usually make. All of a sudden we're all in? NO! Dallas isn't all in, and not even close. They made those trades just so they don't have to address that in the draft. But the Free agency period remains the same. Really cheap filler guys off the bargain bin. The Cowboys offseason is over. Look forward to the draft.

Who's rating is the most accurate? It's statistics, as the saying goes "first there are lies, then big lies, then statistics".
And I think we'd all agree that stats don't tell the whole story, so we're back to personal opinions, of which we don't agree, obviously. It's just a discussion.
Just wanted you to know where I got the no. 6 rating...

Jimmy Johnson’s new book has an interesting take on his philosophy of priority on drafting OL. Which wasn’t 1st rounders .

It was more about some of the things you’ve often talked about in agility , size , feet , lateral movement and speed.

They had to be big enough and able to move as they were often taking on more talented DL and defense.

True. However, they were still 22nd. I think you're overexaggerating how good the run D is.

Your last sentence is truth.

Plenty good enough? Only if we have Hankins or Ashawn or a legit NT.
22nd in what? Bottom line is it didn’t lead to points. We were top 5 in points allowed per game and the run D locked down when it materred most.

We’ll sign Hanks or someone similar so it’s not really a concern.
