Sellers: Orakpo may be the next Ware probably even a little bit better, to be honest

To me, it's his play against the run that makes Ware so good. It's not that he's just a great pass-rusher. He's one of the best pass-rushers, yes. But his most eye-popping plays come against the run. He looks like a man amongst boys on the field, just bigger, stronger and faster than everyone else. Anyone else remember him chasing down Reggie Bush from behind?

In any given year, there may be a better pass-rusher than Ware, but few, if any, will ever have the complete package that he has. He's one of those once in a generation players.

It all steams from his ability to hold his ground even in double teams and then shed blockers at will.

I guess if the end result of being in the basement every year is getting good players, I can live w/ that.

On a sidenote. Mike Sellars is the most useless football player that I've ever seen. I've never seen a big guy such as him go down so easily. His size is supposed to present such a match-up nightmare in short-yardage situations. Yet he sucks in that role. He doesn't bowl anyone over or get tough yards.

have you seen brandon jacobs play? the guy is the softest big runner i've seen. if he doesn't have a 5 yard area to get started and build up steam...he gets tripped up by the painted lines on the grass.

Yes, as if he just sits and puts up with them until it's time to make the tackle, at which point he simply tosses them aside.

His freakish strength and athleticism almost make you wonder if he's ever used PEDs.

He gets tripped up by what could have been there, but isn't. :laugh2:

Orapo can not cover like Ware. But he does not have to. Commanders have speed at Safety and use that to allow Orakpo to go after the QB most of the time. A team with a good pass protecting OL would eat them up. You have to make Orakpo do something else other than rush the passer....if you make him cover...he will be exposed.

Cowboys have MORE speed at safety. Ball and Sensabaugh are both FAST.

Reed Daughty...not so much.

I'm with Bob. Sellers is worse.

True. While Jacobs is a big dude. Sellers is approaching 280 pounds.

He will never be DeMarcus Ware. He is a good pass rusher and probably has more power than Ware, but he isn't half the run stuffer or pass coverage guy Ware is.

The guy has a good motor and is an athlete. On the other hand, I don't think he's as good of a pass rusher as Ware.

Orakpo is a big reason why we had such success running pitches to the outside against Washington. He'll never be as good as Ware as a run stopper. Let him get a 20 sack season too before we start comparing his pass rushing. Orakpo is averaging .375 sacks per game if you remove the outlier where he got 5 sacks against a scrubby Oakland team. He's a good player, but Ware is a HOF player.

Orakpo isn't even in the same zip code as DeMarcus Ware at the same stage in their careers.

You can have Orakpo, Sellers, give me Ware. At the end of the day, I've got the guy with the higher upside who happens to be better right now. Don't get me wrong, Brian Orakpo rocks, but he's no DeMarcus Ware.

One thing he is better at, drawing penalties. Ware is held, tripped, mugged etc every down yet it is rare that an OL is called for a penalty against him.

As a rookie, Ware was busting Alex Barron's behind in 05...too bad Youtube doesn't have that clip anymore of him bullrushing Barron and knocking him down.

Orakpo is solid though...but like Ware, maybe too solid to ever get Defensive Player of the Year awards. Ware is too good as an overall defensive player that he makes most of his plays "quietly" (ex: plays that don't show up on the stat sheet or on Sportscenter highlights).

Matthews is a good player but he is not a better comparison to Ware. That is ridiculous.

can we please let guys get three years under their belt before we start proclaiming them better than the best defensive player in the league?

orakpo is very good and will most likely be an elite pass rusher for years to come, but he has a ways to go before he is on the level that ware is

Reed Daughty...not so much.

So Ball and Sensabaugh are better at their respective possitions than Landry and co . Lets not forget Doughty is a back up SS who plays the FS position because of injury to Kareem Moore . Landry has played poorly at times but he too is a SS miscast as a FS in Gregg Blaches system

As for Sellers comments I have to say that's someone just talking up a team mate-In fact this is the first time I have seen the comments and as for Sellers as a player he is living off his reputation from 2005 (12 catches 7TDS) - useless runner, reciever or blocker but was a fantastic RZ option 2 coaches and 5 years ago .

It is far to soon to make assumptions on one season about Orakopo especially moving into a new system . Ware however is a real special talent . All I hope is Orakopo has half the impact Ware has in his career .

I see Orakpo as an excellent pass rusher who is pretty good against the run who doesn't do much in pass protection...which is fine, even in the 3-4. While I wouldn't confuse Ware for Ted Hendricks in pass coverage, he does a good job in pure coverage, but really excels at knocking receivers and tight ends off their route in the first 5 yards. I've always believed that if you have a defense that can do that aspect very well, that alone will make you very tough to throw on.

Really? Matthews had 10 sacks in 13 starts last year. He terrorized Dallas in our loss in GB last year.

This year he has 6 sacks in two games, knocked Kolb out for at least 1 1/2 games and has absolutely terrorized both defenses he has played against.

I actually think he compares quite well to Ware, especially comparing where he is vs where Ware was in Year 2 -- and maybe just maybe could end up being a better player this year than Ware.

Matthews just seems so inhuman out in terms of speed, quickness, and relentlessness.

Then again, maybe that's the steroids....
