senior bowl stats

According to the defensive stats, Spears was shutout, which matches my impression. Swancutt got robbed with the "0.5" sacks. I Tivo'd the game and he had two, clear sacks for loss.

The second sack wasn't his. He clearly got there after Babineaux had already got to the QB.

For some reason they gave his stats to the TE with the same number (84) Holmes A. In the participation section he is not listed. Bookkeeping error.

There are quite a few errors in the defensive stats, which are based on the play-by-play. I haven't re-watched the tape yet, but I'm pretty certain it was Swancutt, not Roth, who had 1.5 sacks (splitting one with Babineaux) within a few plays at the end of the first quarter. But Roth was credited with both plays.

Seems like most folks have Sproles and Houston rated lower than JJ Arington and KJ Harris. Wonder if that changes?

Sproles wont move up alot no matter how well he shows or works out due to the extreme size limitation, but I'd love to see him as a 2nd day pick for us because he'd be a good 3rd down back...although small, he does run hard and has great quickness and speed...and he can return punts

I wasnt impressed at all with Arrington or KJ Harris...I'd take Cedric Houston over either of those guys

I like Sproles but he can't play third down back in our system. Parcells expects third down backs to be able to block first catch second. 5'7" Sproles isn't blocking anyone.

Blocking isn't about height. It's about attitude.

If it were about height we would just get the tallest guy on the team to help protect the QB on 3rd and longs.

I'd like to see Sproles block before assuming he can't. I think he can get plenty of touches as a RB in the NFL, but I think I'd rather see a bigger power back brought in to compliment JJ. I think JJ will be fine as a 3rd down back too.

It would be so fun to draft Sproles on day 2...new kick and punt returner. All he knows is...where's the hole? and he'll hit it. Occasional carry here and there behind JJ. He is very explosive when he sees a hole...would be a great returner I think. A kid I could root for...however he's not much for words...

I watched Sproles play a few games this year, especially against Texas A&M where the running game was basically shut down forcing KS to open up the pass. Sproles was actually pulled on several of the passing downs because I believe of his blocking ability.

I'm not saying that you have to be 6'3" to block but the bigger the mismatch the harder it is to block. I can't see Sproles at 180 pounds doing much to slow down a blitzing 250 pound LB.

He'll get drafted as a change of pace back and return specialist... And I think he'll have great success at both. But considering how Bill used Richie last year I can't see Sproles stepping up into that role.

Maybe he can block, maybe he can't. But many people seem to think he can only play ST's in the NFL. He's 185, Charlie Garner is 190, Q. Griffin is 195, and Warrick Dunn is 185.

There's many smaller backs out there that can only hope to cut block a blitzing LB to slow him down, but there's not many backs that have the kind of acceleration and speed Sproles has.

Maybe I'll change my mind on him if I see something to suggest that he'll fit that role, I'm just saying that when I watched him play this year I dind't see that aspect of his game. I do think he has great speed and quickness though. It's really hard to judge his hands as he didn't have the best passers in his carreer throwing him the ball.

If teams are stupid enough to let Sproles fall to the 6th or 7th round because as something as overrated as height in a runningback, I'd be more than welcome to capitalize on it.

While I certainly agree that it is mandatory that a 3rd down back at least be a formidable blocker, I think Parcells put extra emphasis on it this year with a 40+ year old QB. Something tells me Brian Westbrook isn't a devestating pass blocker, and if he's stuck in the pocket for pass protection you're not using him right. He needs to be giving linebackers mismatch nightmares.

I know Swancutt had at least 2 sacks. Maybe the best performance by a Senior Bowl defensive end since Shante Carver.
