How many of you guys remember these? Props to anyone who can find a pic of the lined Cowboys pencil (solids don't count).

Did you used to pencil-fight with them, by any chance?

Wow, those bring back some long, forgotten memories. As a matter of fact, I still had about 8 of them when I was 25(17 yrs ago) in storage with some old Star Wars figures and stuff.

We used pencils to fight with, but not those because we did not want to break them. A pencil is a pencil when it is thumped on the knuckles.

However, we did use them on that stand-up video game (Track and Field) until we found out pocket combs were best to run faster :)

They ended it up wrong. The winner got free smacks on the opponent's knuckles after the match.

I should have clarified: that video is 3 minutes of stupid. I just thought some might not know what pencil fighting was.

Yeah, I had a dozen of the lined Cowboys pencils that we used to buy for $.25 out of vending machines at my elementary school. I recall being devastated when they switched over the the solid paint, and the dove-gray they used wasn't even the right Cowboys color.

I would buy the whole pack and only use the Cowboys pencil. I really have no idea what happened to the others

Lol. I do: pencil fights. I'd break the Eagles and Commanders and Steelers first. I collected Cowboys, Raiders, Vikings, and Dolphins for some reason.

Exactly where I got them too. Nothing like seeing a Cowboys pencil pop out.

Yes, I remember them... Good stuff. Went well with the NFL lunch box in elementary school.

Found a pic. It's small, but there we are right in the middle.

Ah, yes, when a young boy's coolness was measured by what kind of pencils and baseball cards he had. Good times.

You win! Your prize is a virtual Cowboys pencil, but I only have the crappy solid dove-gray ones.

I remember they sold these at our elementary school one year, and everyone wanted the Cowboys pencil. The teachers sold them individually, and picked them for you out of a box, so you never knew which team you were going to get, and the Cowboys were rare. For some reason I always ended up with the teams that no one else wanted, so it was difficult to trade. No one wanted to do their schoolwork with a Cleveland Browns pencil.

Fortunately, one of my friends was a Steelers fan who who had a knack for picking the Cowboys pencils, so we would trade, when I picked Steelers pencils.

I only vaguely remember those pencils.

Collecting those little plastic helmets from the vending machine was fun too. It was a treat to help my sons collect those. Was always exciting to find a vending machine with a low enough supply that you could tell what helmets were next in line. 25 cents never brought such joy.

Yeah, I used to get them out of a vending machine for 0.25. And I got a couple of the silver with the blue stripes. Those were freakin' awesome!! I would use the other teams, but never the Cowboys ones. I would ask around to borrow a pencil instead of using one of my Cowboys pencils.

Oh, yeah, that went without saying: never sharpen and NFL pencil. *Maybe* in a pinch you sharpen some crummy AFC team like the Oilers, but even then only in a fit of desperation. You only buy them and hoard them.

We certainly lived in a simpler world than kids today. When I check off the list of things that didnt exist when I was a kid, to my own kids, all I get are looks of disbelief.

I kind of liked the Oilers pencil as well. That powder blue with the red stripes looked pretty cool. If I had to, I would use Cleveland or Buffalo. :D

I've still got a bag full of those helmets from when I was a kid. And a few of the little baseball helmets to. Unfortunately not all the stickers have survived.
