Serious question about Hard Knocks

What did he say if you’re not playing hard you’re a coward. I forgot the actual quote

I can't recall the exact words he used but it was to the effect that if you're tired, you'll be a coward. Of course, he was a major proponent of staying in shape. There'll never be another Jimmy Johnson. I believe when he was born, they threw away the mold. Best HC/GM we've ever had. Of course, Jerry retained the GM title but for all practical purposes, it was Jimmy. He's just a smart cookie. ;)

I didn’t think I would watch it but I did. HBO does a great job with these documentary type shows. As I watch it I am struck by one thing in particular. This camp is way too relaxed for a team coming off 6-10. Way, way too relaxed. I truly think this is the not serious about winning football culture coming through.

Anyone else see this or think I am wrong?
I know when I was at that playoff game in Dallas a few years ago and Heath sacked Rodgers on that final GB drive and he didnt slap the ball out of his hands, this is exactly what I thought of. If only our training camps werent club med relaxed, Im sure Heath would have been much more focused and he would have caused a fumble instead.

Same thing with 2014 in GB. I was at that game also, and when Dez didnt secure that grab in the 4th quarter... same thing. Training camp is just too laxed for Dez to be disciplined and secure the ball.

When Murray fumbled earlier in that game... same exact thing. Training camp is just too much fun for the players and not enough about winning football.

actually, im not sad. You are the one about to have a meltdown due to hard knocks.
Read my post. How was I melting down? I asked a simple question. You are likely too mentally challenged to grasp that.

Nice. I can’t wait to retire. I need my girls to get done with college. 6/7 years. Can’t wait. Enjoy!

Be proud of them. I’m sure you are. I have two daughters with masters. I quit in the seventh grade went in the military. You always want your children to do better than you. My wife has her masters. I just never had opportunity

Hard knocks is entertainment only. The reason they’ve not won is coaching and defensive talent.

We have all the talent a team could need to win a championship...problem is....they think they have already won it. Amazing what 6 months of Jerry hype can accomplish. These kids wouldn't know what hit them if I was running the show. We would run until I get tired.

The Cowboys aren’t really about winning any longer, they haven’t been for a while. This is ALL about Jerry Jones and his Texas size ego. Jerry thinks he is the Dallas Cowboys. The third episode in the beginning is all about rock star Jerrah. Until this organization is about winning football and not about Jerry Jones the better off they will be.

And you'd be fired within a week.

It's Jerry world. They are entertainment not football. Jerry's money and fame come first.

Ever hear of the Junction Boys?

When Paul Bryant was the Texas A&M Aggies coach before he went to Alabama, he had his summer camp in the sweltering heat in Junction Texas. there was a heat wave at the time but Bryant didn't allow water breaks. He only allowed one wet towel for the offense and one for the defense. Each practice was an intense 4 hour nightmare.

Out of 101 players, 25 of them survived until the end.

The reason I mention this is because the "old school" philosophy was that a coach had to "toughen up" his team in order to be successful. In the professional sports of today, there really isn't any need for an intense camp because players are responsible for their for their physical shape practically all year round. They are expected to be in top shape before reporting.

There is also no correlation between success and being tortured in 100 degree heat for six weeks. Programs are far more sophisticated now and these guys are professionals. They may seem relaxed but that persona changes instantly as soon as the whistle goes off and the ball is snapped. You might say that they "store" their intensity for the time it is appropriate to unleash it.

The players are treated as if they are 5 time champions because teams from many decades ago won championships.

I dont bother with Hard knocks

Its funny you say that. My wife watched last weeks episode with me and kept making comments like "see, that's why they can't win anything, they're playing too much" lol. I'm kinda up in the air on that because you gotta make it fun from time to time...

Your lovely wife sees right through the entitled, relaxed culture.

Any other team would find it humiliating tha we have not hoisted a Lombardi belt since late last century.
But this team lives in a world where continual dismal performances gets a "he's a leader, good work ethic" from the coaches and a 3.0 ypr gets a "he's working through injuries" guff and off-the-field shenanigans get a hearty laff from the FO and lapdog Spags.
Big Mac's successor (pls., not Jerry) needs a flamethrower to clean out the cobwebs in Frisco and awaken the sombulent players from their beauty sleep.
