Maher had a good season last year. He helped them win some games.
Correction he had a great season last year he was a top three kicker and kicked the ball off really well he has one bad game and all of a sudden he's devalued yes they should have kept the man at least let him kick through training camp and preseason and if he looked shaky then you cut the guy. I think they were premature letting Brett Maher go...

He was real good for most of the season until he ran into PAT problems when the playoffs were approaching. That’s why he’s no longer here.
He actually never cost us a game last year and won a few games for us he kicked off very well kicked it 90%

I don't care how you finish the year, he should have been brought back and allow it to compete in training camp & preseason and then if he still was having issues with point after attempts then you make a change.

he didn't need to be changed out at that moment and by the way he made his last field goal and his last extra point. When you have a top three kicker in the regular season from the year before, I think it's a little premature to cut him over one truly shaky game...
Because this is what you get, so you would rather have these guys kick a lot of extra points but they can't hit a damn field goal ?

that's their job the main job for a kicker is to kick field goals Brett Maher never had an issue kicking a field goal the only ones he missed last year were over 55.

I know what he did. He had an excellent season and then did badly at that dump of a field in Tampa and lost his confidence.

Kickers haven’t been devalued. It’s not like good kickers are a dime a dozen. You can lose a number of games if you don’t have a consistent kicker. A lot of games come down to kickers.
Im just stating the facts,,, do you value kickers higher than RBs on todays NFL rosters?

He lost his confidence and the team lost their confidence in him.

Vulnerable?? How lmao Brett Maher was a top three kicker in the league last year,, kicked it 90%. his only misses were over 55 yards he was a top kicker and people wanted him gone just because he had one truly shaky game with point after attempts..

I'm sorry but the man should have been brought back at least kicked through training camp and preseason and then if he still looked shaky then you let the guy go..

in my opinion, we were nowhere near shaky, we had one of the best kicking games in the entire NFL last year.. Brett money Maher that did not get made-up the man was money all last year didn't cost us a single game. He also kicked off very well..

This is how fans act in here first they were so up in arms over Brett they wanted him gone and now they feel like everything is shaky..

they probably hoping they had him back just like everybody who wants to make a change at quarterback if you think make changes at kicker and running back are crazy, you try trying to find another quarterback that's the top ten and that could do what Prescott has done since he's been here.

Fans will always find the grass is not always greener on the other side they always seem to want to make a change until the change is made and it's worse. :welcome:
Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough...

At this same point in TC last year....it was a train wreck. Yes, we lucked out with Maher until the end....will we be able to do it again though?

People get upset about the weirdest things.

And let's be clear the year before Greg Zurlien might not have been perfect but he was pretty solid and fans wanted him gone and now the same thing happened with Brett Maher fans seem to want change and then when it's made it's just not good enough..LOL.

This is just the life of a kicker I mean look around the NFL there aren't many steady kickers past the top three so you gonna have to make these kind of changes yearly or you stick with the guy you had the year before and roll with it because I think that everyone always thinks you can upgrade and a lot of times it's a downgrade...

Your comment made it sound like kickers have no value. A consistent kicker is extremely valuable, because a game or your season can be riding on their foot. RBs are obviously more valuable in the overall scheme of things, but it’s easier finding a quality RB than it is a consistent kicker. This is why teams don’t want to pay big money to RBs. This is why Zeke and Dalvin Cook are still available.

I think that Zeke is available because he wants to come back to Dallas and they don't have a place for him right now. He knows there is no big money for him.

I’m not so sure he wants to come back and continue playing second fiddle to Pollard. I think he’s tired of hearing from the fan base that he doesn’t have it anymore and that he’s washed up. I think a lot of teams see him that way. That’s the main reason he’s still available and he’s not getting the kind of offer he wants. No one wants to pay big money to RBs which is why Dalvin Cook is still available. He may have to wait until the season starts for someone to suffer an injury at RB. Teams could be waiting for his price to come down. Once his options dry up, he’ll have to make a decision whether he wants to continue playing or retire.

I think that he wants to win a Super Bowl in Dallas.

If there’s one reason he would want to come back to Dallas it’s to team up with his BFF Dak. His options are getting close to drying up if they haven’t already. He may be down to having to wait it out for someone to suffer an injury.

I guess I am in the minority as I thought Maher did a good job last season. Although he had that one horrific game, I thought he made some big kicks for the Cowboys as well.

I would take Maher or Z over the Charlie Browns on the roster

This is in the 60s or 70s. Agree.

Very likely our kicker isn't on the roster right now. We may find a good one or we may struggle all year but rest assured Jerry isn't paying over the Vet minimum for a kicker ever again.

How is anyone surprised? This is exactly what happened last season in the off-season and into training camp

The real issue with kickers is the risk you take if you don't have a quality person at that spot. I did a simple analysis of the league games the past few years and about 3 out of the 16 game season had a point differential of 3 points or less as a league wide average.

Now that doesn't mean that the games in question came down to a made or missed kick as the difference between winning or losing. But just from a point differential aspect you are at risk of losing some games if you can't convert FGs consistently.

The league parity is that strong that it may come down to the quality of foot you have on the roster.
