Mike Shanahan wants to wait and see if the Cowboys have an opening at head coach, according to Jay Glazer of FOX

Source: ESPN.com

The Cowboys' win over the Saints on Saturday night went a long way in protecting Wade Phillips' job. Shanahan is already reportedly in talks with the Commanders and it's widely assumed that he will end up in Washington. Phillips will likely have his fourth year option picked up for 2010 if the Cowboys make the playoffs.

I just so hope that is not true.

That is purely speculation. The Cowboys have to win at least one playoff game and that might not be enough.

Yeah, I heard this on ESPN Radio.

They said Shanahan is putting together a staff and Daniel Snyder is trying to get Shanahan because he feels Shanahan really wants the Dallas job.

In my opinion ,unless Wade wins the SB, he should be gone., along with the red headed kid.

I disagree.

If he gets this team to the NFCCG and the team plays very well, Wade Phillips will be back.

I think a strong NFCCG and his Regular Season record are enough to get a 4th Year.

Really? The Cowboys could lose the Super Bowl to an undefeated Colts team by 2 points, say on a fluke interception that bounced of Witten's other foot, and you would fire the head coach and offensive coordinator and start over?

I think Shanahan is using Dallas as a bargaining chip for more money.

I think Wade will gone at the end of the season regardless of the outcome.I just think Jerry would rather take a chance with Garrett at the helm than to give Wade another tour of duty.Plus Jerry probably knows that if Garrett doesn't get the job here in 2010 he may get another offer somewhere else.I don't think Jerry would want to pay for Garretts' education and not get anything in return for his troubles.

If we get into the playoffs and lose ,and thats enough for Wade to keep his job. We will be going thru another season on this forum of anti Wade sentiments.

Not sure I could handle that.

I agree with you on the Garrett-Phillips theory.

But I think Shanahan sincerely wants the Dallas job. With Romo, it's a much better job than any others that will be open this year.

I really don't think that Wade saves his job without a Superbowl win. Maybe a trip to the NFC Championship game would be enough but I really think he'd have to win the whole thing to save his job.

The only problem is that I'm really starting to like Wade's Defense now, what will we do on that side of the ball?

If that is indeed the case, then i would have no problem with it. If they make it that far and play well (win or lose) i would want to have at least one more year of continuity for this team. After all, we just want the team to do well and remain competitive no matter who is coaching them.

Yeah.

I dislike Wade Phillips but with his Regular Season Record (not sure what it is but it is dang good) and a trip to the NFCCG is a strong enough case for him coming back next year.

Folks, Jerry Jones has preached "continuity" and "the coaches and personell are in place".

I really believe Jerry Jones would love to keep Wade Phillips but Wade Phillips needs to all Jerry Jones to justify keeping him.

Heard not 2 minutes ago on the Cowherd show from Mortensen that the Shanny to the Skins was a done deal. Nice.

BTW - NO Shanahan for me.

I fear that if we win a playoff game we will be stuck with Wade unfortunately!
