Probably could've got both in the draft.

Whatever though. We needed a solid player inside and hopefully Frederick is that.

Ratliff is so disappointing.

I know Floyd did not have the most sacks in college but he did have 13 Tackles for Loss in last season. These tackles for loss are just as good as sacks.

While I am nicely surprised by Frederick's performance, I believe Floyd is going to be a stud in NFL.

I'll wait until he cracks the 2nd team before making any bold predictions. He could very well end up being a stud, but he's done nothing so far. Even in pre-season when all these guys look like "stars".

I was in favor of taking Floyd. That said if you were to redo the draft right now T-Fred is probably going top 20 and Floyd falls out of the first.

I don't think you can judge drafts that way necessarily I think you go by the information available at the time. If this kind of draft strategy becomes more systematic by the front office I would be very concerned. However for the most part they've been sticking to their board so I'm pretty content just to count our blessings on this one and watch T-Fred maul some defensive tackles.

That would be Kawann Short. He was a bit of a pet cat of mine. I thought he would go late in round 1, so I would have loved to take him in the 2nd (although he wouldn't have made it to our pick).

The reason he slid into the 2nd when he had clear round 1 talent was that his motor ran a little hot/cold. Sometimes he would disappear in games when he should be dominating. I still really liked him though and he would be a welcome addition to the depleted 3-tech DT spot. I actually like him as a 3-tech better than Floyd.

Oh well.

Really a moot point anyways as Carolina picked him ahead of Dallas' selection. I don't think Dallas had Short rated that highly. If they hadn't taken Escobar, they probably would have taken Williams in the 2nd.

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said, "although he wouldn't have made it to our pick".

Sorry, missed that part...it's been a long day.

Actually, I'm kind of interested in seeing what Hayden and Bass can do with Ratliff out. I think we get our DT in next year's draft with Will Sutton being my pet cat.

Jerry comes out smelling like Roses, but the trade back was to grab Pugh. Frederick was a nice consolation prize.

I was watching the draft cam and when the Panthers took Star thats when it looked like they were upset. I think Dallas was wanting Star or Cooper but neither was there so they took the trade. I think Frederick was on their board the whole time was just hoping to come up with Star or Cooper then get Frederick. Would look much better Star/Cooper then get Frederick and Williams, Wilcox, Webb, Holloman. Eitherway I for one like our draft class and the best part so far is most of them have been on the field. Bass, Crawford, Lissemore, Wilbur, Hayden, Selvie and Co. look like decent prospects and the OL has some as well. I like the outlook of this YOUNG developing team

I guess if we picked Floyd at 18, there was absolutely no way we could have traded up from 47 to 31 (even if going that high was necessary) to pick Fred? No, that would have been impossible. #sarcasm
does it matter that your scenario was possible? We made a great pick in TFred and Williams looks OK so far.
Center was as big a need as DT and TFred is diffidently looking like his better at his position then Floyd at
his,so far. Next year when we draft DL in the first you can ***** about something else.

Again people I didn't make the Cowboys draft board they did. They had him fifth overall. What is the board for? DARTS or drafting best picks

Remember I'm the one who picked them to open the season 4-1 or 5-0. So dont shoot the messenger unless you shoot down all the messages.

All together now, they could have had Floyd and Frederick, not Floyd or Frederick. Frederick would have been available in the 2nd rd. Peace

lots of cows sheep out there defending the team's draft decisions..that blue kool aid heading into the start of the season is addictive..

    No words....

this is my question also but Floyd isn't looking all that so we did good.

Honestly, I don't know why people are saying Floyd doesn't look good. I'm fine with looking like an idiot for the next 10 years, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Floyd is gonna be an All-Pro for the next decade. People think he's not "all that" because he isn't first team, but it's normal for most rookies to not be first team. From every report I've read, Floyd is playing very well and will probably be a stud for the next 10 years. That being said, I'm still happy with having Frederick because I feel like Romo is our best chance at winning a Super Bowl and he needs all the help he can get.

He has done nothing so far? Since you are into pre-season game performance, he was the highest rated rookie in week 1 per PPT.

23. Shariff Floyd, DT, Minnesota VikingsGrade: +3.6 Snaps: 15
Analysis: Floyd looked dominant for the Vikings before a knock to the knee sent him to the sidelines for the rest of the game. In the 15 snaps he was on the field for, he looked quick, powerful and destructive against both the run and the pass.

T-Fed was -1.7

I can't believe that there are almost 100 posts about a guy that ISN'T on our team

[x] we didn't pick him
[x] we got terrific value for our first round pick, better than Floyd IMO (Fred + Williams)
[x] it is a bonus that we had a SERIOUS need in the interior of the OL and filled it
[ ] comparisons generally should start once both players have played in meaningful games/situations

Ratliff on the PUP is exactly why you draft a Top 5 DL talent that slips to 18 when you get the chance. Frederick was a very good pick at 31, but I still think you stick to your board (which had Floyd rated top 15) and take best available player. Then, if you love Frederick so much, do what you can to trade up from the 2nd round to get him.

So go build a Time Machine, and stop complaining.

Wow, so a meaningless formula evaluating a meaningless amount of snaps versus backups indicated that Floyd was "dominant?" By the way, he had one tackle in that game. Domination!!!!

I know some did... but almost every one? I don't believe that to be the case.

You were right that this is a pointless debate though.

Really cool screen name you have by the way.

It's not. My go to draft resource didn't.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=90293&draftyear=2013&genpos=C

Once Pugh and Long were reached for all bets for the next off the board were off. Seeing how well he has played, it's reasonable to think some people in an organization may have done some better scouting than 'every draft site.'

This is an aside but the value of the draft was in how the talent from the second through the third was very high and very consistent and the talent up top was weak relative to previous years. This is reasonable because of a very very weak class of skill positions. One undersized WR, no RB, no QB merited top picks. I have been asking what people thing that means for value in the first and for value through the third. I would think it would devalue the first and up the price on the later pick but that is just me.
