Shariff on 105.3 - McClay will be in the driver's seat, not Stephen, once Jerry gives up GM duties

My question is who will be reviewing the contracts when Jerry is gone because right now these players and agents all seem to be getting the better of Jerry. This has to stop. Daks last contract should be the last decision Jerry is allowed to make.

When you’re limited to 200 bucks in free agency it doesn’t matter who the GM is

I started watching this last night I didn't finish it I guess I have to now!! Wow this is awesome

I WONDER how quick this transition can take place, Mark Holmes said someone sent him a picture of Jerry and he wasn't looking to good health wise

"This is a big future prediction bomb I'm going to drop. I was told, and this is from the person, who gave me the Shottenheimer news.
This person told me that when Jerry gives up the power, when Jerry's no longer in control, Will McClay is taking the wheel of this thing. That Charlotte Jones is probably going to be attending the owner meetings. And Will McClay is taking over Stephen Jones' basic role.
Like we all expect Stephen to step in, and everyone's worried and afraid of that. I was told that Will McClay is actually going to be really in that driver's seat. That's what that last contract was kind of set up for.
So if that's the case, I think we should all be pretty happy about that possibility if and when it comes. And Will McClay would obviously be happy about that too if true."

1. Pure speculation, like CowboysZone worthy pure speculation.
2. Insider knowledge about a coaching change (happening in this franchise) is FAR from being definitive news of any actions pertaining to this family.
3. Charlotte Jones attending owners' meetings would be a lateral move. I would guess that it would be the smarter move because her father (a.k.a. The Mad Genius) has been attending them.
4. I respect Will McClay more than maybe most but a smart person, taking over her father's function of attendng owners' meetings (and hopefully a WHOLE lot more), will not retain him solely as her only option. She should consider upgrading his position if-and-when it is warranted.
5. As with #4, McClay's future should not be automatically and exclusively tied with Brian Schottenheimer's contract. It should be based on his results as a general manager.
6. ALL of the DNA kids are currently co-owners and will remain so after any transition.
7. Stephen Jones' current role is the franchise's Chief Operating Officer. I speculate he, as the chief (pun intended) sibling will take over their father's President role at some point--whether it is before or after their father leaves the mortal coil.

The elder child's move up will leave a void at COO--IF they decide to keep that position active AND fill it with another sibling. While I personally believe the sister is the most intelligent of the three, I think Jerry Jr., would likely be more qualified as COO with his flimsy professional background.

This hypothetical scenario means Charlotte would either willingly retain her title as Chief Brand Officer (unlikely since she will be representing the franchise as a co-owner) or take over a current position or invent a new one for herself--another unoriginal possibility concerning this family. The only other current position, that would be vacant, is general manager. So...

What will be Charlotte's title If-and-when McClay fills the GM role?

Jerry, like me, is getting really old to be running anything. But Stephen is not that young. He will be 62 this year. No way he can handle all the hats of Owner, President and GM. But he is just vain enough he may try. But IMHO he is not very good at his job currently. Added responsibility would likely be an even more clown show.
To your point about Stephen’s age…if SJ became the Cowboys GM today, at 62 he would instantly be the oldest GM in the NFL.

Jerry turns 83 this October and has already passed Al Davis as the oldest GM in pro football history. Sad.

Being an effective GM in today’s modern NFL requires more than having the job because you have a lifetime contract regardless of results. Every winning owner of the last 29 SBs all hired someone else to be their GM.

Years ago before the D-Law extension it was SJ that called Lawrence to get the deal done.
Archer touched on it in the link below but I remember tweets that it was SJ that made the first move.

So, IMO, while SJ isn't the guy drafting the paperwork, it's been 6 years of SJ sort of leading the charge on contracts. IIRC most times they would talk about contracts regarding Dak, it was mostly SJ leading that front with the media.

I don't think it has been Jerry "overpaying" these guys.
