I don't know if this has been addressed to any degree but IMO Shaun Alexander, at the right price of course (not the 8-yr/62 mill contract), would fit the void left by JJ.

Yeah, its obvious that his production has been down the last 2 years in Seattle mostly due to a foot and wrist injuries, but he appears eager to play, at least from his interviews. He's 30 years old, a HOF running back. He won't get top dollar from anyone.

Any thoughts?

Depends on the draft. If we get a RB early, then no. But if somehow the draft falls where they can't get the back they want...then I'd have no problem with it.

No. Most unmotivated runner in the NFL. Don't need another RB that falls down after an arm tackle.

Alexander can still be very effective getting a handful of touches a game - I see him ended up somewhere like NE -- he hasn't been unmotivated so much as overused.

I would strongly consider this player as a #3 RB and see what it might take to sign him to an incentive deal.

Remember, this was the guy that Seattle took with one of our 2 #1's we shipped to Seattle in the Joey Galloway deal.

I realize he's been injured, but if he's interested in a comeback with a team like us and pass a physical, we could sign him, let him rehab and take 2008 to recover for a run at starting in 2009.

We did this with Columbo before and it's paid big dividends now that he's emerged as a starter. We signed Columbo in mid-season in 2006 and he sat and rehabbed and didn't force trying to play after his prolonged layoff once being cut from the Bears.

There is upside to any of this if you don't have to force players immediately into playing.

And we have sort of actually taken the same sort of approach with Tank Johnson.

He was signed and was not really ready to play fulltime in 2007 after a 9 month layoff, but we still took him with an eye toward whatever he could do in 2007 and now he's replaced Ferguson at NT in 2008, along with Jay Ratliff and will see lots of snaps at NT and passing situations.

And we now have really done the same with Pacman.

He's not going to be expected to be a full-time starter at CB and depending on when he can actually practice with the team..it maybe July or later before he actually plays. And even then, it maybe weeks or months before he's really contributing regularly as he gets in shape and learns the defense.

He's had over year layoff and possibly as much as a year and a half by the time he makes the field again. You just don't throw him into the game immediately. There will be a transition period while he slowly works back into football shape and avoids any injuries due to inactivity and comes up to speed to play 100% full speed.

So even with him now a Cowboy, this is a future investment poised to pay nice dividends once it goes the distance.

So Dallas has a need at anywhere of a #1/#2/#3 RB position as this whole deal is not settled by a longshot at that position. Alexander might be ideal in Dallas. With MBIII still not under contract and asking for a huge deal and the Cowboys looking at drafting another RB at the top of this draft..who knows if MBIII will be here after 2008.

The gamble to stash Alexander on the team could be well worth it for both the team and the player by the tme 2008 ends and we shake out where it all ends up at the position.

And I'd love to see Alexander make a comeback with us. That would be some amount of re-couping of those lost draft picks for us giving up those 2 #1's for Galloway in some measure if he produced for us DTR.

I'm for it and taking a look as long as it's not too costly.

We'll see.

fyi - as popular as this board is, if you're a day or two late on just about ANY news it's likely been covered to the point of being "over-covered". it's hard to come in 2-4 days later on something like this and have it *not* already covered.

the last shaun alexander thread we had got everyone to reply with non-related answers that were just funny for the sake of being funny.

He is not a HoF running back.

He could really help vill a void.

Assuming that void is an injury-prone, slow, unmotivated, plodding runner.

no, I wouldnt waste the time on him

the guy is simply washed up and has lost his guts as a RB...he's done, we can draft any of 10-15 guys who can play better than him...he has no upside and no future, at least the draft picks would

..that a bunch of fans have an opinion and that's about it..?

Right..?

Seems to me that when TO first became available..there were a bunch of threads clearly stating he was not going to succeed in Dallas and would destroy the team like in SF and Philly.

Don't see anymore of those threads.

Same thing with Tank Johnson coming here.

Don't see those threads anymore.

Now it's Pacman that is going to burn the team, too..

Those threads will be gone soon enough, too.

Ad nausium.

Sign Alexander if he's healthy and affordable.

With out a doubt I say a resounding YES YES YES.

We should look at him with the idea of letting him replace Rowdy as the team mascot.
