If we passed on Sharper, why in the hell would we sign Springs?

2 words that scared everybody away from Sharper.....Microfracture Surgery.

This procedure is no joke, alot of guys are never the same afterwards.

I think the money and his age were already starting to scare some away. Having word that he had that surgery get out only made it a lot less likely that teams were going to want to take the chance.

I think its an interesting thought. And I don't see a big problem from switching to S from CB. I think they can make very good safeties. I think it takes time to learn the schemes and to call signals but a 10 year vet shouldn't have much problem with it.

OTOH, I think we should either roll with Ball and Hamlin or sign Atogwe.

But this team is ready for a run so you check out all possibilities.

If that is going to be the mantra the rest of the offseason, oy!

Sharper was a Pro Bowl S & wanted WAYYYYYY! more money than it will take to get Springs IMO

Why does everyone think you just take an old CB and make them a safety? I don't understand it.

If we think we have to have a vet safety, why not just sign Atogwe? I know he's not healthy yet, but he should be by the time the season gets here.

I think we're going with Ball or Hamlin, though.

I think so too CL.

If both of them look absolutely terrible, they can go after a guy like Atogwe later. Or if he's gone, look at someone else.

There really wasnt any drop off from Hamlin to Ball last yr. So with another full offseason and sticking with one position (FS) Ball should be improved even more.

Springs has played some FS with both WAS and NE.

Maybe that's why.

And Atogwe wants a long term deal and starting job.

Springs may want to earn some change and come home to Dallas while helping all of these young CB/S on the roster while he goes for a Super Bowl ring.

Springs is 35 yrs old. He's played in 16 games only once in the last nine years. He's hurt alot at CB. He'd never hold up at FS. And as old as he is, he isnt going to have the range of a guy like Ball.

Like the guy and all, but its probably time he retire and we definitely dont need him here.

I heard he failed physical in New England, that's why he was cut.... DOn't want anymore old progress stoppers

Shawn Springs failed a physical

Although veteran cornerback Shawn Springs says that the New England Patriots' decision to cut him had nothing to do with his knee injury, reports out today suggest that Springs' health played a part in his release.

The Boston Herald and ESPN.com both report that Springs failed a physical.

It's not clear what the reason was for his failed physical, and it's not clear whether the failed physical is the reason the Patriots cut him. But it surely didn't help.

In any event, the 35-year-old Springs has been talking about retirement this offseason, and if he can't pass a physical, retirement may be his only option.

They can send him to the Commanders' Home, where the elderly still get paid.
