I used to just hate the guy, hate is a strong word, but I did.

The guy doesn't skate around what he thinks.....he has the pair to tell it like it is.

I'll take a firery guy like that any day.

Whinning is what most people do, shockey is one of the few people that will say whats on his mind, and not care what anyone thinks.

Out played, out coached. If that team ever learns how to start a game, they'll be dangerous. They can sure end a game.

There is a time and a place for everything. Shockey needs to shut his mouth about things like this directly following games. Emotion does some strange things. Sleep on it, come back the next day and tell it like it is. But leave your coach and your teammates out of it. Tact is a useful tool in the NFL.

This 'firery' guy you're talking about is what crushes seasons and destroys clubhouses. But if that's your bag, you're right, you'd want Shockey in a heartbeat. Personally, I'll take Witten, who happens to be one of the greatest guys in the NFL and works harder than 99% of NFL tight ends.

Oh, and his hands aren't made of solid granite either.

Just so we're clear...

I never said I'd take him over Witten.

Witten's ability, with Shockey's desire would make the perfect Tight end.

Time and a place, yeah.

He said what he was thinking, instead of tippy toeing around what he was really thinking.

Gotta respect that, JMO.

There are certain players that you are glad play for a particular rival because it makes it that much easier to hate that team. Shockey plays this role perfectly for me.

Every game I have seen lately he has dropped at least one pass. Including this game. He really should be pointing his finger at himself.

It always ruffles me when people respect those who 'just say what's on their mind even if it isn't what people want to hear.'

There is two things wrong with saying what's on your mind all the time without tip toeing around it:

1) Your mind might have the cognitive equivalent of a brick. If you are saying what's on your mind all the time, it might just show how stupid you can be.

2) This opinion completely ignores the idea of 'tact.' Just because you are angry and spew rubbish, you get no respect from me just because you are 'man enough to say what you feel.' Sometimes keeping quiet is the best course of action.

No - he gets no respect from me just because he speaks his mind with no regard.

A couple of comments on the game. I'm in southern CT, which is like a NY suburb...the people I watched with are die hard Giants fans. I told my buddy John If I were the coach of the Giants, I would play them kinda like the 90's Cowboys (Troy passed a lot more in the 1st half of games then the 2nd half).

Open it up in the 1st half, maybe even let Eli go into a no huddle situation and build up points, then you could run the ball with Tiki and Jacobs in the 2nd half.

The defense did give up a lot of points also, but the seem to play better in the 2nd half also ? This Giants team has me confused, but hey, they seem confused themselves...Which is good.

I whole-heartedly agree. I've known a lot of people that do not have the capability to think about what the effect that their words will have before they jump out of their mouth. Just because a talented guy has "diarrhea of the mouth," doesn't earn him respect.

To give constructive criticism without creating discension... that will earn you respect.

why would you question witten's desire? just bc hes not super-demonstrative when he makes a catch? witten had his jaw broken, wired shut and never missed a game. ive also seen him bloodied in games, running over people, and has become a very good blocker. sounds like a guy with a lot of desire to me.

hes the beneficiary of madden man-love. whenever madden starts gushing over somebody, all the other announcers follow suit. it also doesnt hurt hes playing in ny.
