Brown kicks field goal in OT after Feely misses three
SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Josh Brown capitalized on his opportunity to win the game. Jay Feely failed on his three chances.
Brown's 36-yard field goal with 2:45 left in overtime lifted the Seattle Seahawks to a 24-21 victory over the New York Giants in a battle of first-place teams.
The Giants (7-4) could have moved a game ahead of Dallas in the NFC East if Feely had made a field-goal attempt from 40 yards out on the final play of regulation or had converted on his two chances in overtime from 54 yards and 45 yards. But Feely missed all three.
Two plays after Feely's second miss, Matt Hasselbeck connected with D.J. Hackett on a 38-yard pass to the New York 38. Shaun Alexander then broke off runs of nine and 12 yards to set up Brown's kick.
Alexander finished with 110 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries, raising his league-leading total to 1,339 yards.
The win was the seventh in a row for the Seahawks (9-2), who own the best record in the NFC and a four-game lead over St. Louis in the West Division. Seattle can clinch the division title with a win next week or a loss by St. Louis.
The Giants tied the game at 21-21 when Eli Manning hit Amani Toomer with an 18-yard touchdown pass with 1:59 left in the fourth quarter and then connected with Jeremy Shockey on the two-point conversion.
Manning recorded the second 300-yard game of his career,
completing 29-of-53 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns with an interception.
Former Giant Joe Jurevicius caught eight passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
