A couple of surprising and head-scratching numbers from the Bronco game.

In 42 of 76 plays the Broncos gained 2 yards or less. 55% of Broncos offensive plays resulted in:
  • An incompletion
  • A negative penalty
  • A sack
  • A pass or run that lost yardage or gained 0, 1 or 2 yards.
On a shocking 13 plays the Broncos were tackled for loss.

And yet...Dallas gave up +400 yards.

When you allow 200 running yards , it does happen

It really was a bizarre game. After halftime, I was fully expecting the Cowboys to come back and seize control. That weird blocked punt sealed the no deal though.

We blow coverage in the intermediate area of the field on a regular basis I think it's just gonna take time.

It's very rare for an offense to get completely stone-walled on lots of downs yet still come up with 200 yards rushing. Somehow Dallas allowed that to happen.

Denver featured 26 run plays that didn't gain more than two measley yards, half of those losing yardage.

KM would have abandoned the run game if that happens to us , but the Denver OC didnt , they knew about poor tackling or believed their RB can break long runs !

Allowing 16 points really isn't bad at all in today's NFL, esp. when you consider the Broncos enjoyed 78 offensive snaps.

But when it was bad....it was ugly.

16 points?

16 points?

Wasn't counting the scores after blocked punt and int, but whatever.

The D got big-time gashed, except most downs when it was quite good. That's the main point here.

A stinking offense, along with mental lapses and stamina issues on the defense, made it a total team loss.

So, if it wasn't behind the line of scrimmage or within the first five yards of the line of scrimmage, Dallas had trouble making tackles. Sounds like they could have used Jaylon Smith. Doesn't he make all the tackles after five yards!
:muttley:

One possible explanation for this Jekyll and Hyde defense:
A bit of hero ball by the defense last Sunday? Going for penetration but not always maintaining assignments.

Here's another shocker from Denver game:
When throwing to his wide receivers in quarters 1,2 & 3, Dak's results?
3/13 for 41 yards

Dak is normally ultra-elite w/his wide-outs. Falcons game will be big to get this turned around.
