do you realize how many people ask for his autograph everyday? if he signed all of them he would never get anything done.

In that case he could politely decline couldn't he?

75 bucks for Emmitt's autograph is a bargain now. The last show I went to he was charging 125.00 just for his name and 25.00 for an inscription like Rushing King or something like that. I think I paid 75.00 for Julius Jones autograph on a mini-helmet. Julius was a real nice guy, he is very soft spoken. I paid 25.00 for Witten during his rookie year, he has hands like a bear. Real nice guy as well.

You know the bit about the 75 may be true on second thought because when players agree to do the shows they aren't allowed to sign things with out the fan paying for the auto so maybe he was disgusted that he wasn't able to sign the item and that's why he walked off...Who know's Emmitt has proven he's a class guy.....

Actually most Atheletes or stars are apparently approached by Kids who are sometimes paid by this autograph re-sellers, i.e. basically some kids paid by candy etc. to get autograph, since normally they wouldn't refuse the kids.

So some stars and athletes thats why refuse to sign them when they are out and about, since basically these kids are being exploited.

But on side note, On of guys I worked with told me this encounter with Emmit, whose Wife is big Cowboys fan and Emmit fan. I guess they saw Emmit in a bar and his wife went up to him and told him how much of a fan she was of him etc. Apparently Emmit leaned over and kind of rubbed his shoulder with hers and said "How much do you love me baby" :D

Now who knows, it might have been to just get rid of her, because having seen picture of her, I don't know Emmit would have meant it in that way :) She wasn't ugly or anything, pretty decent looking, but not probably one that Emmit would be hot for.

I choose to go off the entire body of evidence when drawing conclusions about people. We could sit here all day and speculate about what reasons Emmitt may have had to decline that autograph that would be consistent with who he appears to be on the whole. Or maybe it was a bad day, moment or whatever.

The entirety of observations about Emmitt seem to depict a pretty together guy that has some admirable qualities. He's not without flaws or bad moments or whatever. He's not perfect. Do I think he's a pretty classy guy overall? Yeah, I do.

But I know there are many Cowboy fans who think he's a fraud and really very selfish and interested only in himself and his image.

There is little sense in debating that with them. Truth is probably somewhere in between.

Sometimes those guys are just having a bad day.....they are human and would like privacy......for the most part they are pretty nice.

I agree. I have been too many training camps when it was in Austin and some of these fans become obnoxious about autographs. I saw a kid laying on a cart path in front of Emmitt and Irvin golf cart to get an autograph and as soon as the practice was over these guys are being mobbed by fans and when someone gets passed by they get upset and start saying what a jerk that player was.

The guy who had it the worse was Aikman, at the end of practice it was so bad that the team decided that they would draw the names of a certain number of people and Troy would sign just those for the day. Had he stayed to do everyone autograph it would have taken a long time.

A lot of players are sick of signing things for people, only to see them show up on Ebay the next day. I have had business dealings with Leonard Marshall (Giants DE) and he said that people would get him to sign footballs and jerseys and then go to Ebay and make money with it.

Wasn't there a story about Emmitt one year at training camp and a little kid kept coming to the fence with mini-footballs for Emmitt to sign. After a couple of days they found out some guy in a van was paying kids and giving them items to go up and get autographed. When they came back with it signed he paid them a few bucks.

People are vultures.

Yeah, it would have been most likely. Personally, I have never gone up to someone to get an autograph, then probably when I was kid, to ask at that time Genius Book record holder for solving Math numbers of some sort.

Anyway, maybe its me, but I just don't care for autographs or taking Pictures with an athlete or stars. Its cool some like it, but unless I know that star or Athlete, I don't care to get a picture.

People need to realize those guys are human too, and can have bad days or just might not want to be bothered etc.

I'm the same way, If I get a chance to talk with that person and they ask if I would like their autograph then I'll say yes and was lucky enough to meet Carl Lewis and Paul McCartney and was able to get both mens autograph. It was the same with many of the members of the Cowboy players I got to meet in Ft. Lauderdale.

Hmm, I've met Emmitt several times and he's been anything but kind. First time I met him was when he was opening his cellphone store, he walked by and I just asked about his shoulder and if it was still hurting him. To my surprise he stopped and started talking to me about it like I'm some long-time friend...totally caught me off-guard - I'd just assume he'd say "Fine, thank you" and walk off. I was so nervous talking to him I couldn't complete a sentence. Totally embarrassed.

Other time was at a Circuit City in 2001, this time I just kept it short and wished him well. Now Randall Cunningham...that's a guy whose attitude turned me off.

Like I said, it depends on their mood too. But some are just always jerks. I kind of heard the same thing about Barry Sanders in Detroit. But thats been mostly about his tipping habits not talking to fans etc.

I don't believe that story

Well, I had him one on one in Detroit with no other fans around and he flat out denied signing my Cowboys helmet. I even asked him to put my name on it so, he wouldn't think I would sell it. I was pretty bummed out about it. I had seen him 3 years in a row in Detroit and he flat out refuses to sign a thing. I don't hate him for it, but was disappointed.
