If the Cowboys draft Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys will go to the playoffs, but will likely fall short of going deep into the playoffs due to holes on defense.

If the Cowboys draft anywhere on defense with the 4th pick, they will be picking high again in 2017.

Completely agree..... best way to cure a defense quickly is to keep them off the field...They can create an unstoppable offense with pick #4...Come on down Zeke...Imagine the pub they would get with this pick !!

OK, I'll bite.

I don't agree because I don't think last year has anything to do with next year. Last year was strange. Yes, Romo's injury is the highlight, but the schedule couldn't have been more brutal. Romo gets hurt, and the Cowboys face Ryan, Brees, Brady, Eli, and Wilson, followed by the Eagles. And all that is essentially without Dez Bryant, who by the way, was egregiously interfered with against Tampa that could have won that game. Romo then comes back in time to face must-wins against Carolina and Green Bay. Oh, gee, thanks.

This year looks like a DRASTICALLY easier schedule. With a modicum of luck on the injury front, I think we're in for a 11-5 type of season.

However, I share your hope for a big-time running back addition. Zeke would be fun, but I'd also be interested in what Henry could do behind this line, or the kid from Utah.

Very possible in a weak NFC east. Until we address the pass rush and lack of foot speed and talking in the secondary, we will not be good enough on D.

Since the Cowboys didn't take on last year, I have been following the running back's in college. In terms of explosive plays, he's not Todd Gurley, but in terms of being an all round player (alla Emmitt Smith), this guy is as polished as they come. He does everything and would absolutely feast behind the Cowboy's line. My prediction is not to suggest that the Cowboys would be wrong going with defense with the fourth pick overall...it is just going to take more than 1 draft to fix what is wrong on that side of the ball.

I think we need a responsible management team that can look beyond their noses and think about the long term future of this team. If your scouts tell you there is a QB to take at #4, you take him and don't look back. Unless you plan to draft in the top 5 on an annual basis. In which case you can wait to draft your QB.

I get your point, but it's not like we would only have Elliott for one year.

if tony stays healthy and the rest of the team stays healthy I think they can maybe contend of for the east but if they make the playoffs they will be one and done with the defense they have.

I'll simplify it even further:
Regardless of who Dallas drafts this year, if they have Romo, Dez, and Scandrick back for the year (or at least 14 games) and no other devastating injuries this season, they will go to the playoffs.

I could've swore you just dropped the mic and walked off stage after that one. Well done.

Hardly stepping out on a limb here. 8 or 9 wins in the division might mean "getting" in the playoffs.

I predict Alfred Morris will show he has a lot left in the tank behind this OL. Playoffs and beyond will come down to keeping Tony Romo upright.

It depends a couple plays here or there could have changed our whole season and I think Dez na d Romo can make those couple plays we may need to win a few games imo ...... the defense is better than 2014 idc what people say when you go three and out so many times this past season the defense is eventually gonna get tired and we weren't blown out untill the end because the offense was terrible..... the offense just cldnt help the defense...

And even if defense got turnovers we either would have kicked a fg, punt or turnover the ball anyway imo based on how last year went with Cassell.. so add Romo and Dez back and Zeke brings a whole another element

Zeke can actually score on his long runs so you have to respect that and that changes your opponent defensive scheme... get some role players to step up cause we all know cant have superstars everywhere

Now our defense just need to get back to being opportunistic and plus Scandrick coming back from acl injurie we know with technology and studies that acl's are not what they use to be you can fully come back from that injury for example Gurley and AP just to name a couple

and plus evey year is different to some team next gonna come out of no where be the #1 seed prolly that we not talking about so teams change and get better too

Put me down in the camp that thinks that anyone believing a rookie is the difference between making and missing the playoffs is overestimating the player in question.

I would agree....depending on the position. And at the RB position...with this OL....with the threat we have at WR in Dez and at QB with Romo....an explosive RB could actually be a difference maker.

With this OL and Romo, you should be able to make the playoffs with McFadden and Morris (assuming no injuries obviously) and a third round TB too. It really comes down to Romo and having a real passing threat.

So given that, I don't believe Elliott is the difference between making and missing the playoffs. No player at 4 likely will be. The only player that probably makes a real difference in our playoff chances is the QB.
