Not really a thread starter like years ago around these parts. But would like to take the pulse of the fans here about this issue and where the fans think we are in this seasons trek.

The question that begs to be answered for me is this. Is Shotty learning the head coaching role as he goes and are the Cowboys exhibiting clues to the fact Shotty is producing to the point he may be much better than expected?

Or are the teams Dallas has played close just also-rans in the league and it is too early to determine they aren't that good, so anything seen by Shotty is simply showing out against poor teams?

As a side note, I'd love for it to be revealed that Shotty is the next hottest young head coach in this league. But there is a part of me that desires for the Packers to be simply over-rated and they end up at 5-11 this year. Primarily because that first round pick would be so much more valuable were they to stink on ice. Maybe so valuable it is better to keep it along with the Cowboy's first rounder bringing in two real stud players for this team next season.

I realize it's early and maybe far too soon to decide, but something is very encouraging thus far, regardless of the record this team has posted so far.

What say you?

As a side note a broken clock can be right twice a day. Although my opinion is Jethro is far more broken than any clock in the history of time.

Maybe Shotty is a better motivator than was presumed. It might have been something of a relief that McCarthy and/or Parsons are gone. Maybe some of the depth is better than we thought? Could it be that Philly & Green Bay aren't as good as advertised?
Who knows. The NFL is a fickle hobby for most us. Me being a pessimist I think we'll be seeing plenty of disappointing times ahead. But I surely did enjoy those 2 games. THAT'S what it's all about.
I guess.

I think he has done a good job so far. I think the offense is far better than I was expecting. Part of that is because I think he has made good personnel hires on that side of the ball and part of that is because I think the play calling is much improved over the past few years. I think he also has a good connection with the players but I do think he is also holding them accountable (for example, Diggs getting dropped to the bench). It remains to be seen however if he can keep it up if the losses continue to come. Dan Campbell lost a lot of games at the start but it was clear the Lions were continuing to play tough and make progress. He changed coordinators the next year and the Lions are now an excellent team. We will see if Shotty can do something similar if this season bottoms out.

I think Schottenheimer is a very good offensive mind. I think he is still learning to be a head coach. Obviously we are not seeing the adaptation on defense that we would all like to see by now. I'm also on the fence about his always upbeat/positive attitude. Not that its always a bad thing and maybe he can be a bit more of an authoritarian behind closed doors, but I've not been a fan of the attitude after the Eagles game "moral victory", less padded practices because those guys "worked hard on Sunday", etc.

...cowboys play hard for him. He's doing good things back there.

The defense situation is obviously work in progress ..;).

GB and Philly are good team's. Schotty had us prepared to go toe to toe with them both.

Chicago was actually a popular pick for improvement before the year and have now won two straight. The Giants beat the Chargers.

I dont think we've simply played crap teams. In fact, parity is in full effect this year and I expect a lot of average teams based off what we've seen thus far.

I certainly won't sleep on the Jets or the Panthers, at least not with this defense.

..very good points, mate. What stands out from Shotty, the focus the team has.

Its like players know their jobs. Unlike McCarthy/JG days.

And yeah, how bout those Giants. THey cracked a 3-0 team. But give us crap for beating them in OT>

The offense is much improved over MM, especially with his play calling. A new DC next year and heavily focused fa and draft on defense will help this team a bunch

Not gonna lie. I was ambivalent towards Brian Schottenheimer's hire. 100% didn't care.

Then I saw his TikTok. Telling the fans directly how excited he was for this opportunity. He even semi- suggested he empathized with the doubters of his appointment.

Then he basically said buckle up- it's going to be a fun ride and "I PROMISE: we're going to win alot of football games."

4 games in- with absolute rock bottom defensive talent and the excommunication of it's best player:

The team looks a player or two away from being eye to eye with any top team in the NFL. Yes we're a 64 yard FG from being winless. But we're also 1 reception and 1 second from being 3-1 with W's against *2* SB favorites.

We might not win more than 7 games this season. But I think next year we will have a talent influx that will make us immediate contenders.

Schotty is right. It's kinda been fun and you can see the intended final product he's manifesting.

Unsure. But it behooves both Jerry and the agent to get this done smoothly after the Micah fiasco. Both parties need this.
I’m going to guess 4 years, $120 million, 90 guaranteed. Gets him just in the top ten. He probably fancy’s himself a top ten receiver. If he wants to chase a ring he’ll want more to stay. Even tagged it’s about $28 million for the season. Unfortunately the whole 28 goes to the Cowboys’ cap. No way to mitigate it. I suspect his agent is aware of that.

Scotty’s doing great.

I feel like he had little to do with Eberflus & that was a friend of the family hire.

Schottenheimer has made this offense look the best it’s probably looked.

Everything is rolling except for the fighting Eberflus’s that don’t know what’s going on.

...if they can fix defense to at least middle of pack. WIll be ok.
