Should Carr be Benched?

I'm not a jump-the-gun kind of guy, but I would consider it whenever I have base defense out there. Moore and Scandrick, with Carr coming in during nickel situations.

It isn't that I think Moore is better, but Carr is playing fundamentally flawed football. he isn't athletic enough to get away with that.

I was starting to think about it when he tried to undercut that pass to Maclin when he was out of position and in man coverage tonight.

I was thinking we were in zone on that particular play and he had deep third which made his futile attempt inexcusable since he was the last line of defense there. Either way, by far his worst play of the night.
It will interesting to see what happens with Brandon this offseason and I am intrigued by the pattmon kid.

I don't think he tried to undercut it, he was just flat-out burned on that play.

This. If he tried to undercut it I would at least give him credit for aggressiveness. He was in terrible position.

I feel like when he is playing the deep third he just doesn't get deep enough.

Carr plays well, but then hits you with plays where you just shake your head and it seems to be in zone. I'm not sure what it is, but I remember last year in the Detroit game when he was getting 'burned' by Megatron, it looked to me like the safeties fault multiple times, Carr leaving Calvin to the zone with no safety in position to actually cover Megatrom. I wonder if playing with average to below average cover safeties has made him second-guess a lot when playing zone now.

That play to Maclin, looked like two Cowboys players in the same area right before Maclin cut back outside if I remember. It was a mic route by the WR as well.

There is no reason not to bench him. - Moore has played a pretty good season and - it would be nice see Patmon is some more action. Carr is a liability on every single play.

I remember when Scandrick played on the outside and people thought he was garbage and that we overpaid him. Then he moved inside and seemed to gain some confidence and seemed to learn how to study. Scandrick missed a key tackle last night on a big play, and he still gives up receptions as well.

Moore gets additional help behind him that Carr doesn't get.

Carr is overpaid, and Carr has underperformed....but Carr is still a decent starting CB. He did not play awful last night. If he had played awful and couldn't cover, the Eagles would have been throwing there all night and would have eaten us alive. A CB can give up 1-2 big plays in a game and no one is happy, but it doesn't make him garbage. If Carr was earning half of his salary, we wouldn't complain quite so much. Our expectations are unrealistic, but it's not his fault the Cowboys gave him that huge contract.

It's also not Carr's fault that Pacman Jones and Terence Newman are still playing very good ball in Cinncy. If the Cowboys ever put together a D front that can bring consistent pressure in the face of a QB, sacks or not, we will find plenty of inexpensive DBs that look pretty good back there.

Yeah, there's a lot of truth there Chuck.

I dunno... The Cowboys lately seem to have this problem where a use-to-be-good-corner turns into crapolla, departs and turns into a decent corner again. I don't know what it is.

Regardless, I don't see Carr being benched at this point of the season.

However as I've stated since training camp, Carr will either not be here next season or will not be playing here for the same contract he signed with the Cowboys.

Either by FA or by an early draft pick, another corner will be brought in for next season.

:eek:Didn't we bench or at least demote Mo earlier this year, before he got hurt? Man, we are gonna need some corners again.

I don't even want him on the team anymore, but who do you replace him with?

During game review the Maclin play needs replayed a dozen times at least. Then I would ask Carr what was he thinking? I love the signing at the time but now he has to go. Benching him sounds like a great idea but who do you put in his place?

Mental issues with Carr. In the first Eagles game he made a similar mistake crashing down on the RB and letting the WR get behind him. Mental issues more than anything, but he's the weak link, and teams certainly won't go after Scandrick if Carr is playing so "promiscuously". Until he comes up with a pick or two, teams will keep going after him for the easy stuff.

Bottom line is somebody is going to get caught on. Claiborne was the whipping boy, and now it's Carr. This is the nfl. Unless we're investing tons of resources into defense, then one of our corners is going to 'look like garbage' eventually. Carr played awful, but it's bound to happen. Should he be benched? Nah. Let go for next season? Possibly.

Eventually? He has been terrible for two years.

I don't see where you can bench him, especially in 'must win' mode for a playoff spot.

But, that said, I'm very interested in the salary cap implications involving letting him go next year.

Guy seems to be clueless when playing zone. I don't get it.

He absolutely blew it on Maclin's catch and run. There was no deep support behind him and he made a reckless play.

Yeah, its exactly the "must win" mode that is the issue. He won't be on the team next year, but we have two more must win games just to get in the playoffs this year and a possible playoff run after that. Starting Moore over Carr isn't the best football decision for this team right now?

I thought Moore was starting? In place of Claiborne.

If there was a proven option to put in there for Carr? I wouldn't be totally against giving it a try, but I don't see any.

For everyone saying who else can we get, there's probably somebody on the couch right now that can be better than Carr. All you have to do is get beat up and down the field and accidentally make a play, that would be better than Carr. He can't make a play on accident. I'm sure this was the same logic for not wanting to take Claiborne off the field and we've since seen a guy come off the street and play better than Claiborne could dream of.
