The Cowboys Defense was very bad last season. Actually, it has been bad for several years now. With as bad as our D-secondary has been in recent years, our run Defense up the middle has been worse.

Antwaun Woods is okay at times playing at 1-tech DT, but he's average at best and only signed through this 2021 season. The rest of the DTs on this team are 3 or 5 tech DTs who show promise at times but struggle to be consistent, hence a big reason why this Cowboys Defense continues to struggle against the run in between the Tackles.

What this Defense needs (and has needed for 10+ years) is a big, tall, nasty, strong and aggressive young 1-tech true Nose Tackle who can line up straight up or in either gap occupying the opposing Center, and help not only plug up the middle against the run but even be aggressive and quick enough to cause some pressure up the middle against opposing QBs.

Alabama monster DT Christian Barmore is still available. He made it out of the 1st round but will likely be taken somewhere between the first 5 picks of the 2nd round.

The Cowboys own the 44th overall pick (the 12th pick in the 2nd round) valued at 460 points on Drafttek's value chart. They were able to pick up via trade the Eagles 84th overall pick (valued at 170 points) in the 3rd round. That gives the Cowboys 3 picks in the 3rd round (75th, 84th & 99th overall).

If the Cowboys were to try to move up from their 44th overall pick (valued at 460 points) in the 2nd round to the very early 2nd round, they could possibly approach the Jets 34th (2nd in 2nd round) overall pick valued at 560 points. That's exactly 100 points of value more than the Cowboys 44th overall pick.

Should the Cowboys offer the Jets their 44th overall pick (460 points) and their late 3rd round 99th overall pick (104 points) to move up to the 34th overall pick (560 points)? The Jets would get an equal value (actually +4 points in trade) to trade down 10 spots to the 44th overall pick while picking up an extra 3rd round pick.

This trade-up move would allow the Cowboys to address their much needed position inside our Dline while still being able to maintain 2 picks in the 3rd round and 2 picks in the 4th round to address other positions of need like CB, FS, O-Tackle, etc.

What say you?

if we trade up it’s for a corner we like or their is a run on corners. we have a gapping hole at starter on one side.

The CBs available are more of a 3rd round grade. All of the top CBs (5) got taken in the 1st round.

This is why Jerry should have traded down a 2nd time in the 1st round in order to pick up an extra 2nd round pick. When he refused to trade down a 2nd time but instead settled for LB Micah Parsons with that 12th overall pick, Jerry pretty much gave up drafting a top CB in this draft.

Christian Barmore is the best interior DT in this draft. Best to move up 10 spots to get the best DT in the draft than overdraft in the 2nd round for any 3rd round graded CB.

A CB can be taken in the 3rd round, hence not as good as they would like because of the value remaining for said CBs.

Yeah, I have to believe Chicago asked the Cowboys first. That made the most sense. But apparently Jerry didn't go for it. I'd trade up now too. For either Barmore or the top S. Both have fallen.

Dallas could try a risky move. Sit at 44 until either Barmore or Moehrig are drafted, then trade up for the other. Worked for the Patriots, a QB fell all the way to them.

I like McNeill, but he's only 6'2" tall. He won't be able to block any QBs view in the middle against the pass.

Barmore is 6'5" with long arms.
I’m more concerned with the 1tech taking on 2 blockers and stopping the run. McNeil shorter/ stout and will have better leverage. I think of Barmore as more of a 3-tech but I could be wrong.

If I had my druthers and the Cowboys found a way to make it happen, I'd say go for it and make Barmore a Cowboy.
Add some quality muscle and beef to that defensive line.

The Cowboys will wait at 44 and take the best player available. Some mocks have Barmore falling to us at 44. We have 4 more top 100 picks, let’s use them to improve our defense. I could see the Cowboys drafting a defensive tackle, safety, pass rusher and cornerback with those 4 day two picks. Quinn appears to actually have a plan to fix this defense.

We need a 1Tech. Barmore is not that. In addition, far too many think he’s overrated so I’d rather not trade up for him.

And this is why the Cowboys fail every darn year, because they don't take the DT position seriously.

Don't you get tired of seeing opposing teams run up the gut at will every season? That also affects our passing secondary.

It all starts up front. If you don't seriously address the DT position, everyone else on D will be affected (LBs, DBs, DEs).

These fools who own this team don't know what they are doing...and it shows every year. What's sad is they have a majority of the fans believing them even though the results prove otherwise every year.
