Cowboys current picks (in
green) after Day/Round 1:
The Cowboys Defense was very bad last season. Actually, it has been bad for several years now. With as bad as our D-secondary has been in recent years, our run Defense up the middle has been worse.
Antwaun Woods is okay at times playing at 1-tech DT, but he's average at best and only signed through this 2021 season. The rest of the DTs on this team are 3 or 5 tech DTs who show promise at times but struggle to be consistent, hence a big reason why this Cowboys Defense continues to struggle against the run in between the Tackles.
What this Defense needs (and has needed for 10+ years) is a big, tall, nasty, strong and aggressive young 1-tech true Nose Tackle who can line up straight up or in either gap occupying the opposing Center, and help not only plug up the middle against the run but even be aggressive and quick enough to cause some pressure up the middle against opposing QBs.
Alabama monster DT Christian Barmore is still available. He made it out of the 1st round but will likely be taken somewhere between the first 5 picks of the 2nd round.
The Cowboys own the 44th overall pick (the 12th pick in the 2nd round) valued at 460 points on Drafttek's value chart. They were able to pick up via trade the Eagles 84th overall pick (valued at 170 points) in the 3rd round. That gives the Cowboys 3 picks in the 3rd round (75th, 84th & 99th overall).
If the Cowboys were to try to move up from their 44th overall pick (valued at 460 points) in the 2nd round to the very early 2nd round, they could possibly approach the Jets 34th (2nd in 2nd round) overall pick valued at 560 points. That's exactly 100 points of value more than the Cowboys 44th overall pick.
Should the Cowboys offer the Jets their 44th overall pick (460 points) and their late 3rd round 99th overall pick (104 points) to move up to the 34th overall pick (560 points)? The Jets would get an equal value (actually +4 points in trade) to trade down 10 spots to the 44th overall pick while picking up an extra 3rd round pick.
This trade-up move would allow the Cowboys to address their much needed position inside our Dline while still being able to maintain 2 picks in the 3rd round and 2 picks in the 4th round to address other positions of need like CB, FS, O-Tackle, etc.
What say you?
