Be whatever you want to be and let others be what they want to be. Me? I have been optimistic plenty of times only to get burned by Jerra the snake oil salesmen. I will remain pessimistic until they give me something to be optimistic about.

Look at the picks on defense, 2016-2019.
It’s nauseating, I think I may actually vomit after scanning through those names. How anyone can say we’re above average at drafting is beyond me. I’ll give them credit for a few nice pick ups on offense but nothing that makes them “that” much better than most other teams.

"Should I be a disgruntled Cowboys fan?"

Nah, you got the passive aggressive, I'm "the real" fan thing down pat.

On a serious note .. fan is short for fanatic. Which means anyone who is a fan regardless of what type is irrational about this team. Be it irrationally negative or even irrationally positive.

So you do you and let them be them.

Exactly. There are passionate diehard fans that live and die with each success and failure. Our weeks are ruined after each loss. Then there's this guy, the casual cheerleading fan, who sees unicorns and rainbows, even though they've been a league laughing stock for 25 years. Honestly I envy the casual fans ability to not really pay attention to what's going on, its a lot less stressful existence. I just don't have the casual fan gear.

Not disgruntled. Just never liked that title. Just put a bullseye on us. I am more of an under the radar guy. Of course, there's nothing under the radar about the Dallas Cowboys.
There was and is not anything wrong about the franchise being labeled with the nickname 'America's Team', just as there is nothing wrong with almost every other label commonly associated with teams in every sport. Symbolism is twisted in the minds of some people and the misconstrued thought is subsequently spoken aloud.

The National Football League was created in the early 1930's. Nicknames were regularly bestowed upon teams with barely a ripple in pubic opinion. Then 1978 rolls around, John Facenda makes the observation, "They appear on television so often that their faces are as familiar to the public as presidents and movie stars. They are the Dallas Cowboys. America's Team." and some people start losing their <expletive>. Literally. The nonsense is SO bad that some people, who were not even born at the time Facenda birthed the nickname into existence, have been losing their <expletive> over it too.

Again, the practice is usually (and often) repeated by disgruntled fans. You might say it is a coincidence that you do the same thing but you share the dislike for the moniker with them nonetheless.

We're the most valuable sports franchise in the world and we haven't been to a NFC champ game in 25 years..u can be whatever u want 2 be. Most all here love the Dallas Cowboys but have went from over zealous hope to realistic expectations until something changes. You can only be burnt so many times
What keeps yall coming back? You can only be burnt so many times, so why come back? Like the abuse? I know for me, if they'd let Dak walk, I was going to be done. Not that Dak is Brady but moreso because he'd earned the extension three years ago and the organization had failed to do the right thing. Really would have lost faith in this organization if we'd gone from a guy who we can win with if they focus on other parts of the team to a rookie.

You can be whatever kind of fan you want to be and even be inconsistent Be on the wagon one day and off the next. Applaud what looks like a good move and hammer what doesn't.

Being a fan isn't defined here by anyone but you. Labels like Negative Nancy's and Pollyanna's are really absurd.

I do not define any member's fanhood through my own. I don't complain about what kind of fan they are because it doesn't matter.

In order to manage my expectations, I do not play the 25 year card. That's nothing more than entitled whining. Each season is a separate season and within those 25 seasons, there have been some good ones but no NFCCG so it's all been bad. I don't get that but it doesn't bother me.

Too much complaining here about the negativity, you do not counter negativity with complaints about it. Counter it with your own positive observations. If some rain on that, so what? Who cares what they think? There are plenty of members here that support each side and the middle ground as well.

-----Should I be a disgruntled Cowboys fan?

I am being honest, when I say that I'm not even much of a fan in general anymore....the incompetency of Booger and Chuckles has made it almost impossible. I no longer eat, drink, and sleep Cowboys football....I seldom know the next opponent, time, and place until a few days prior....there was a time when I could cite almost the entire schedule to you in advance. I already know that we have no shot at the Super Bowl next year, and Corky as HC installs zero hope or excitement in any bone of my body.....soooooo pathetic that I am actually jealous of teams like the Chargers, Jaguars, and Browns....it is truly sad.

Just to interject my 2 centavos as a Wiki Scholar.......

The NFL was formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season

Nor do I. And I am just as frustrated about the last 25 years as everyone else. I've been a fan since.1970. I lived through the Super Bowls. But I choose to think that the next signing or next hire or next draft pick will be the one to bring us back to the top. Life is too short to always be miserable.

You are correct. I should have stated early 1920's. That was my brainfart. On a related note, it lengthens the nickname nonsense by a decade. :(

Whenever I log on to this board or any other cowboy forum, I encounter the disgruntled Cowboys fan. You know the type. The ones that ask the typical disgruntled questions. Why did they sign this guy? Or why didn't they sign this guy? Why did they draft this player. Or why wouldn't they draft this player instead? How could they not win that game? Or why did they bother to win that game?
And not just that. They have to make fun of the fans that are trying to stay positive. Or bring them down to their belief level. If a fan makes a post asking what we need to do in free agency, they will answer with the equivalent of 'what's the use?' Their answers will infer that whatever they do, it will be the wrong thing.
I get it. We haven't won anything in over a quarter of a century. We have a meddlesome owner. We are known as America's Team (worse thing to ever happen to us.) We have an atrocious defense. We paid Zeke. We paid Jaylon. We drafted Taco. Again, we haven't won anything in over a quarter of a century. God knows that there is reason to be disgruntled.
But I choose not to go that path. As do many of the other board members. We know of our challenges and our weaknesses. But we choose to ponder about what we need to do to overcome those challenges and weaknesses. When they sign a mid-tier free agent, we try to figure out how they will use them rather then complain about the fact that they didn't sign a top-tier player.
There are many ways to skin a cat and the Cowboys choose to do if with drafting well, signing second-level free agents and then turning those players into compensatory picks if they choose to leave. Yeah, we have missed on some draft picks but we are one of the best in the league at picking college talent. That's a fact, Jack.
So I ask the disgruntled fans that stay on these forums and others like it. Why? Why continue to be a Cowboys fan if it is so negative and depressing? Isn't it the conventional wisdom to purge things from your life that make you unhappy? I, myself, will not read, listen or watch anything Cowboys related after a tough loss because it hurts to think about it. So I understand the concept of out of sight, out of mind when it comes to the Boys.
Anyway, I know that this post isn't gonna change any minds or mindsets in regards to the Cowboys. And I know that everyone is allowed to be Cowboys fans, including the Negative Nancys in our group. I live in the Philly area so I see the negativity about the Boys every day. So I'm used to it.
Have a good day, y'all, and How bout them Cowboys!!

Voicing our concerns and criticisms helps to heal our pain of frustration and disappointment in the performance and results of our favorite team. We can continue supporting the sum and rooting on the success while calling out the moving parts which could be preventing the results and goals set forth.

Fortunately, attempting to hold those accountable and responsible for the poor decisions and lack of success with the results set forth they at least have to respond to public perception regardless if it’s just damage control and scapegoating.

I’m much more likely to listen to a fan who has critical thinking . And some take it more serious than just the 3 hours of entertainment each week during the season. Which I’d argue most on a fan forum would represent.

But there’s a place for all fans. Analysts, Critics and Cheerleaders. Much like attending a game or watching at a sports bar. Not all fans we’d want to sit by or invite in our home as they conduct themselves much differently than we do. We all come from different backgrounds and history in becoming Cowboy fans. That makes us all individuals basically rooting for the same cause in the end but how we arrive there is on a different path.

Instead of looking for ways to divide and conquer with propaganda promoting your beliefs I’d suggest looking for ways to bring us together but this appears to be a growing dilemma attempting to discredit others points of view that differ from our own instead of looking for common ground.
