Should I Get Back Into School?

Alright so here's the deal. I've been home schooled for about 2 years now. It's ok I guess, but it gets pretty boring. I've been thinking about getting back into school. The only problem with that is I'd probably have to go back for another 2 years at least. I do this online program. I could probably finish it in 1, but I've been thinking graduating in two years versus one isn't much of a difference. The reason I started getting home schooled was simple. I was a ****ing clown in school. I would disrespect the teachers, disrupt the class, get in fights, and wouldn't do my work. I ended up having to repeat the 8th grade because of my antics. Main reason I wanna get back into school is because I wanted to play basketball in high school. I consider myself a pretty good player. Good rebounder, I can post up, decent shooter, my defense is not that good, but I know I can get better in that area. Also I could really use a girlfriend. Anyways what should I do?

You asked, so I'll give you some very basic advice......

AIM HIGHER IN LIFE.

Are you even thinking about college? Maybe you are but I get the impression that it is not even on the radar given your reasons for going back to regaulr school and the indifference between 1 and 2 years.
You stack the odds way, way against yourself in this day of age if you are not.

As for hoops and chicks, go for it.

I'm thinking about it a little bit, but probably not as much as I should.

Playing HS BBall shouldn't be the determining factor. If you are doing better in this setting and are on a trajectory towards college then don't change course in order to play Ball.

What year should you be in now? Not if you didn't stay back, but if you went back to public school, where would you be.

I think consistently asking for advice here in the OT Zone isn't really such a good idea. These are things you should speak to your parents or your close family about, not some strangers on the internet.

If I had stayed in school I'd be a sophomore right now.

Well, that is a problem, bro.

But, if you want to do the better things in life, like get an education, get a nice woman, play some B-ball, you need to adjust your attitude, period.

You seem to be a cool guy around here, but, if you don't respect yourself, nobody will respect you.

Nobody can help you if you don't help yourself.

Set some goals, like getting back into public education, controlling your temper, and strive to be better than you already are, because you can always better yourself...IF YOU WANT TO!

Good luck...don't be a hood rat, be a gentleman, be respectful to others, and others will give you the same respect back, and more.

academically are you on par with a sophomore? I wasn't home schooled, but there has to be some standards you have to be at.

Generally I would agree. But asking his harmless.
It really depends on the family. There are some families that you are far, far better off not taking their advice.
But we don't know his.

so while being home schooled you made up the years difference from staying back? seems like a no brainer to me what you should do. I know senior year is fun, but if you've skipped the HS experience up till now, trying to do it now may end up setting you back.

...some serious and mature questions.

Am I prepared and willing to share the educational experience with different teaching personalities?

Is there a real benefit to me being in an actual institution? Will I perform better in an actual school?

What do I being to the table in terms of joining a HS? I think you have to look further than just being a good B'ball player.

How does going to a HS fit into my plans for the future? You may not have the road map to your future figured out, but is education part of what you are considering?

If yes, then how does attending HS improve the situation for you?

Ultimately I believe there is pros and cons in any situation, but the key element here is your ability to tap into the teaching staff and advancing life for yourself.

If you end up attending the HS only have continued problems with authority figures, then I believe you are wasting yours and the HS's time.

Oddly enough you are a member of a sports team forum and you have probably seen how the criticism for players of this team shed light on missed opportunities and wasting each other's time.

If you are going to join a new team, ex. a high school, make sure you are read to be a team player.

If you are not ready, then you may end being no better than the players you often see being criticized here on this forum. Be prepared to be part of the team if you are enrolling in a HS.

Do you have a career goal in mind?

College is overrated. I'd be making even MORE money now if I hadn't gone to college and just got a decent job and moved up. Now, I know some old **** is going to quote this and tell me how dumb I am, but I don't care. College is overrated.

90% of the time, either college or some other vacational/trade education is the way to go.
Maybe for you, it wasn't.

I have a brother that's a fisherman who makes >120k, and he didn't need a degree obviously. But for the most part, it is a huge advantage. All statistics show this, and it is moreson each generation.
In my family--including brothers, sister, cousins, nephews, nieces, etc (40+ people).....far, far and away the ones with degrees are doing better financially and in life.
There are exceptions though.

Going to College is a payback. Not in just money, but a more rounded education in many subjects. The more you know about different subjects gives you and advantage in life. Not, all the time, but most of the time.

I hope the economy gets better so more kids can go to College, because it helps to have that paper.

;)
