Should our focus turn to the OL with these recent hires?

I want Richards to be given first crack at LT. I've liked what I've seen from him at the position. He occasionally gets outmaneuvered to the inside, but he's got good strength and good feet and I think he'd grow with the role.

Let Guyton go over the RT and compete with Steele, who is a good run blocker but certainly not ideal as a pass blocker.
My problem is giving up on a kid at a position after only one season which we knew he would struggle a bit.

This is just my take.......Guyton needs coaching, not competition. He's a kick in the____. It appears he's a player that needs hard coaching coz he's mentally soft. Kinda in the Taco mode. MM comments about the article below are alarming ..........questions how hungry he is.

To add to that last post, I do like Banks alot. Could be a candidate for pick 12. He should be able to play LT or either OG position in the NFL at a high level. If the new staff isnt high on Guyton at LT, Banks could be plugged in. Or Tyler could be moved to LT, and Banks goes to LG

I really hope you are wrong. LT is not the position where you want a mentaly soft player. Its why I have been advocating Tyler moving there. Tyler doesn't know weakness. Its easier to figure out LG than it is LT
I agree 100% but my thing is lets see what the new coaching staff can do with him before giving up on him at LT. All rookies struggles a bit so my thinking has always been giving them a freeby. I believe it was Landry, as well as most coaches say talked about players improvement by their second year and the third you know what you have.
Having said that, I admitt a raw player who is mentally soft is not a good combination at all but he deserves his chance. BUT, his a____ is on a short leash (lol).

Just me, but too soon. Bringing in competition shows a lack of confidence in his ability to correct rookie mistakes. I mean he was a 29th RT pick starting his rookie season LT. His struggles were expected especially technically but my concern is whether or not he has the mental toughness. But I'd rather work with him and give him this year before pushing the alarm button.
He came into the league needing development, noting wrong with having him compete to become the starter. If he fails, becomes the swing tackle, where he still will see many reps throughout the season.

Funny you say this coz I just completed a couple mock stimulators ........each one had a Banks, Campbell or Jeanty at 12. The more I think about I love the ideal of drafting Banks. He gives the Oline several options..........RT, RG, TL, LG

I think we need to stick with what we've got this year. Adams is praised for what he did with an Arizona line that fought through injuries. I think he's got plenty to work with here with Richards, Guyton, Smith, Beebe, Hoffman, Bass and Steele. That's seven linemen to find five starters. I'd rather we devote the draft to other areas that don't have a starter or more than one at the position.

Now, if they wanted to bring in someone like Will Hernandez on a cheap deal to add another contender for left guard or bring back Tyron for cheap to back up LT (like Jason Peters did at the end of his career), I'd be good with that. But neither player is likely to take that cheap of a deal.
I think they need more veteran leadership then adding another high level starter through the draft. Adding a veteran could be very low cost aging type to show these lineman what it takes to become a professional, on and off the field.

RT is still a premium position in the modern NFL. It's not giving up on Guyton to move him to where he played in college, it's giving up on Steele and his millions saved against the cap post June 1.

Its something I expect Klayton and Riley to really look into this offseason. I expect they look at alot of his film and talk to him to see if he is equipped to be an LT. They could decided that he isnt their guy at that position. Maybe he has what they want at LT, and just needs growth. Maybe more an RT. Maybe they just dont see it in him. One way or the other, what becomes of Guyton is going to probably the most interesting story line of the offseason

Hard pass in the 1st..weve got 2 1st rounders and a top 100 pick at C. We need to help the rest of the roster.

It’s also arguably the best OG class I can remember in a long time some can get a good player waiting.
As I have said, bring in a low cost veteran to help this young group out. Could be a starter or a reserve.

Personally I prefer DL. But Id still be happy with a Banks selection. 12 is high if he winds up at LG, but your line is pretty much solidified for the next decade

I have no problem with using Guyton as the swing to continue his development. If he is ready, he will beat out Richards.

I rather wait a season and allow our staff to evaluate what they have first.

There are fans evaluations and there's Jerry's evaluation, which is reality. We can plan, talk, post, whatever we wanna call it about WE think but truth Jerry has different lenses. For a normal team, with a conventional own/GM, you are right but Jerry isn't giving up on Guyton at LT with only one year under his belt..........I mean we agree on many things ( 10-15 years counting lol) but this isn't one of them.

I agree they aren't giving up on him and his lack of development is probably why Solari is off this staff. Now if the new coaches believe he isn't ready, they have to have the power to sit this kid until that day comes.

Bingo!!!!!! This is all I'm saying ............lets see what the new coaches decides. My fear is whether they have the power to sit him, even if they want to.

Fine with me, just don’t use premium draft capital on one.

Also wild to see some of our fans are giving up on Guyton after 1 year. Rookies struggle…he has a stretch of games last year where he gave up like 2 pressures and looked like the guy. Clean up the penalties and keep working and I think he’ll be fine. Even if he only turns into a league average starter that’s a home run in the bottom of the 1st (I think he has higher potential though).

While I would like to draft an Olineman in the top 3 rounds, be it guard or tackle.
I would prefer the one FA pickup to be someone like Hernandez or at least of that ilk.
A veteran who could fill whichever hole we have.
Guyton starts at LT (Not sure how long he lasts, but he gets starting reps in camp, probably starts the year) Smith LG - thankyou very much. Beebee is our starting Center and should show much improvement this year. Having never played the position before last year.
RG is the question mark.
Draft, FA or in house.
I do think Martin won't be back.

I would just continue to expect effective starting left tackles with the 29th pick in a meh draft.
