Since we don't even have any comp picks, it would be hard to do it unless its a really good deal.

I don't remember whee I read this, maybe even here by a fellow poster, sorry I can't remember...but the 1 scenario I read mentioned trading Romo to Houston and swapping picks (round 1), and selecting Taco Charlton from Michigan, it seemed like make the deal if they can land Charlton. I like that trade.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

There's a legitimate chance that after 2017, we'd have a 1st, 2 2nds, and a 3rd all under the age of 28 that arent even on the team anymore.

From trading up.
A little sarcastic for the reasons you mentioned, but a well placed move up and great pick would go a long way in helping this team win, now.

If it lands us a legitimate DE I would be fine with it.

It's not just that this is a deep class, it might be the deepest class ever evaluated (not hyperbole). There are likely to be starting caliber rush ends available in the third, maybe fourth round. There will WR better than Terrance Williams available four rounds deep. There might be 15-20 starting caliber CBs and about a dozen safeties. There are going to be players this year available in the fourth round across the board that would have been second-round picks in other drafts. If our FO does its job, we will upgrade at least four positions and maybe five just from this draft. That's why you don't want to trade up and burn extra draft picks and that's why you don't want to extend yourself in FA unless you have a specific player that just screams fit and wow factor.

There are two areas where this draft isn't deep - QB and OL. Lucky for us those aren't high on our priority list right now.

Gotcha. Just depends on the player I guess.

Yup. It's insanely deep in exactly what we need. This draft could set this team up for years, just like 2016.

To be honest, if there isn't anyone at 28 that I love, I'd be thinking hard about trading down to one of the teams at the top of the 2nd who might be looking for a QB and the 5th year option.

With Cleveland looking to take Myles, they'll probably be looking for one, the teams behind them might be looking for one. Cleveland might want to secure the pick, or someone might want to jump them. 28 is a good spot to be for that.

If we can get an extra pick at the top of the 3rd, or more, I'd have to really love a player to stay at 28 because the draft is so deep.

But the more Cleveland is tied to Myles in first, the more I'm thinking that's an option.

Cleveland also picks at #12. They can get a QB there or trade that pick to NE for pretty boys backup.

I mean unless Myles Garret falls down dez bryant like to the 20s area I cant even imagine we would entertain the idea

Or someone gives us a kings ransom for romo and we are able to move around

Should the Dallas Cowboys trade up in the first round?

http://thelandryhat.com/2017/02/26/dallas-cowboys-trade-up-first-round/

With possible trades on the horizon, Will the Dallas Cowboys look to improve their position prior to the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft?
The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of options in terms of what they can do in the 2017 NFL Draft. Currently they hold the 28th overall selection but could move forward if they get an opportunity. If Dallas does trade up they would need to likely give away several picks and or a player but it could be worth it depending on who they select.

There are plenty of teams in the NFL Draft that could be motivated to trade with Dallas and a lot of that speculation could come to a head at this years scouting combine. The Cowboys do have several players that teams could find interesting enough to trade for. The most likely player to be moved is obviously veteran quarterback, Tony Romo.

Dallas will need to think long and hard about how exactly they want to approach rebuilding their secondary. Both starting cornerbacks and the teams starting strong safety will hit the open market unless the team can re-sign them prior to the beginning of free agency...

love the stories that have zero to do with reality and everything to do with "gosh, i have a deadline in 10 minutes, what can i change a few names on and republish"?

simply won't know until more pans out and we have a better idea of what the REALISTIC options are.

No clue until the draft comes along and I can see who may fall. I hated the trade up for Claiborne but was stoked at the trade up for Dez. If a DE falls to twenty that Dallas has a top ten grade on then why the heck wouldn't Dallas trade up?

Because the DE you would get by trading up 5 or 6 spots won't be any better than the one you can get at 28. Additionally you lose a later pick than can be used on defense.

The Cowboys don't have a 5th now so if they give up a 3rd or 4th to move up they would only be getting 3 players in the first 5 rounds. Not good!
