Should we be alarmed by Tyron's "not alarming" back?

I have been wrestling with even putting a thread behind this topic as to avoid offending the football "gods"...but it has been gnawing at me. Both from the perspective of this team's history of flubbing injury-related communications as well as this now being an arguably recurring theme for the best LT in football (in my view).

This issue first cropped up last season of course...I recall some back and forth in this forum when he missed the SF game and a couple of others. And while we never heard anything further about it upon his return, we all know that back ailments can be a tricky thing and hard to isolate the problem.

So someone PLEASE talk me down off of the ledge here. Should we be concerned or is this no big thing and "nothing to be alarmed about" as the FO would have us believe?

I think there is some concern but I also think it seems like something he can manage.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas gives him a lot of time off during training camp from now until he retires.

It wouldn't surprise me if they used the back as their excuse to give him lengthy rest. He has nothing to prove until September anyways.

I was thinking of posting the same thing two days ago, He struggled last year with ongoing back issues apparently from a bulging disc in his back, even missing two games to give him some rest and now two days in pads and he's experiencing more back stiffness, although Garrett says it isn't the same issue as last year but we all know from past history of injuries with this club that are stipulated not serious, and day to day only to find out it's a two month or season injury requiring surgery but the organization really has to be concerned by this re-occurring issue with Smiths back.Dallas can't afford to lose him for any length of time, just hoping season ending surgery isn't in his near future for his bulging disc...

I've been concerned about it before now. He missed 2 games before mid-season last year due to this issue. Luckily Chaz Green was healthy for those 2 and played really well. If Green had been bad this would have been a huge topic way before now.

Frankly - it pretty much became a huge topic for me last season but agreed that the intensity was blunted by the yeoman's work Green put in. I hope the FO is being straight with us as my level of distrust in this area is pretty dang high.

I know a lot of the fan base pan the selection of Chaz Green but I liked the pick.....I think he's quality starter in this league but he just can't stay healthy...that's frustrating.... I think the organization wanted him to start the season at left guard over Cooper.... although I'd rather Green at right tackle and Collin's at left guard but at this point if Green can get healthy, he'll probably be moved back to swing tackle going forward

The optimistic tone in your post certainly helped me! ;)

back injuries for a lineman end a lot of careers. Hard to believe but this is Tyron's 7th season. He was so young. Won't be 27 until December.
He already has a bulging disc and those never really heal. Sadly I think he might only have 2-3 more seasons. The impacts, twisting while trying to control another guy weighing as much as 300 lbs puts tremendous stress on the back.

sad fact is that Green has no history of staying healthy. THAT is why I would never have picked him. talent is worthless on the injury list.

If they had faith in Green staying healthy, I think they would have focused on him at RT and would have kept Collins at LG.

Drafts are about probabilities. Some players are question marks in terms of talent while others are question marks in term of ability to stay healthy. Green's talent was probably worth the risk vs taking a less talented player that was healthier.

Tyron will always be battling that back while playing, just hope he doesn't seriously injure it more. It could shorten his career, hopefully it can be managed well.
