Should we be too happy about Gilmore and Cooks?

With all the money we'll be paying out soon, will we be able to pay these guys to stay here for several years? I know we will be able to free up some money if we extend Dak (not a Dak thread). But we'll have lamb, and diggs to lock up, with maybe a lineman or two to look at locking up.

Can we afford this, we're all glad you have these two new editions even COOG (I said it!). Just want them to be Cowboys for years, especially if they're playing well. Please give your thoughts....
Gilmore and Cooks are only here because we whiffed on Joseph and Tolbert.

The NFC may not be this weak long term either

Gots to go all in......like they should have last season

TY HILTON and Hankins was too little too late
I agree now is the time. The NFC has never been this weak on paper. Strike now to take advantage of some of these young QB's before they are really ready.

I think the goal is for these guys to be high end stop gaps and have younger cheaper guys take over. That’s how the FO operates with outside FA’s, especially aging ones.

Look for guys like Tolbert, Eric Scott, Bland, and any picks that surprise this year/happen next year to be the ones the FO wants to fill these roles cheap.
Yeah, they'll figure out next year based on what they get from the young guys this year. They do have Cooks for two years, though.

They could re-sign Gilmore, like they did Hankins, based on what they see.

Of course we should be happy

As far as paying them for several years goes, Gilmore is going to be 33 this season and Cooks is going to be 30. So, no we won't be likely be paying "both" of them "for several years". These are shorter term moves IMO. But that's part of why they cost us as little as they did.

Yeah, Terence Newman followed Zimmer to Bengals, Vikings and signed 1 year pretty cheap deals and was playing at a pretty high level through his late thirties.

I say congratulations to the Jones' for finally following at least part of the current NFL business model for success. Now more that ever the front office is playing a greater role in winning on the field. The signing of high quality, adaptable leaders that legitimitley fill a need, to one & two year deals is a HUGE part of that.

I'll refrain from buying Cooks and Gilmore jerseys but I will celebrate their expected successful short tenure in Dallas.
