Should we draft a RT?

I don't think we resign Collins next year whether he moves to guard or stays at RT. We're paying three OL starters top money. If we don't want to shortchange other position groups, we have to go cheap at LG and RT.

Drafting one feels likely.

Collins isn't great, but he is serviceable. I agree the OL needs help/depth in general. The Cowboys will need a good OL if Dak is the QB. I see some greater needs on the team than upgrading the RT.

Yes and a LG as well. Assumptions are being made that a year of beefing up will make Williams a NFL OL and there's no assurance of that. If it were that simple, these teams would salvage all of their weak OL. Williams was a popular pick because of playing at UT and wanting to be a Cowboy but it takes more than that.

They have options at OG:
Williams
Looney
Sua-Filo
La'el

The options at LT if Tyron gets injured:

Collins had potential to be great. I'm not sure what happened. Would a different coach have made a difference? I don't know. I keep imagining someone's going to pay him and test his will and he ends up being dominant somewhere for someone like NE or one of these new west coast/spread systems.

I'd re-sign Fleming first.

But yeah, probably. Have a hard time seeing us take one in 2-3, depending on what we do in FA maybe the 3rd rounder although I doubt it, but 4th is probably up for grabs. I don't know anything about this T class though so I don't know if that's even realistic

I don't think Connor is moving, I think they like his potential and ability to combo block between Fred and Tyron. Personally, I'd give him some snaps in camp at RT and see what he looks like because his best asset is his feet apparently, although a lot of teams have been lining up their best edge rushers over RT a fair amount so you have to take that into consideration.

As simple as it sounds, Collins is much better suited for being on the left side of the line. Being left handed and playing on the left side than switching to the right and to tackle.

Could make him a better player

La’el is the most overrated player on the team so absolutely
Byron Jones most overrated..LC isn't bad at all and for the right price, I keep him..

btw everyone stating hes better guard then tackle, are you egoistical internet gms think you know more than ALL our past OL Coordinators? the OC, or the entire scouting team and staff? seriously if they felt this way and if it were true they would have made that change when we had issues at LG and most also thinking they know more and have say Fleming or Cwill put in at RT down the stretch.. them not even making that move at anytime tells me they KNOW LC is better at RT for now..

Teams dont just overlook these things as if somehow the CZ gms know this..sure he could be good at either place but as Tackle its more important if all things are equal, you play tackle..teams dont let players play out of position unless theres rash of injuries and you have no choice..

Draft tackle if good ones available because you might need one to learn swing and with TS age and getting hurt you start preparing for the future, now..

Between Connor and La’el, we got tackle covered.. The future might one day might be Connor at the right, Collins on the left...

If RT is pure bpa, I’d be tempted though....

I've been in favor of drafting a LT high in this draft b/c Collins is entering a contract year, and Stephen always drafts a year ahead.

Tyron is breaking down also. Good thing is DAL has a lot of depth already...enough depth where CWill could be moved out to OT and they'd still be cover inside provided TFred is back.

Just like most people thought Byron Jones would be a better corner than a safety, but hey, what do internet people know?

If the right guy falls in the 2nd, I'm all for it.

I generally don't like late round tackles though, seems like they never work out. I think NFL tackle is one of those positions where there are so few guys with the needed combo of size, strength, and athleticism to man the edge, and the ones who can hack it almost always go early. Kinda like how late round DEs seldom work out either. A mid or late round tackle wouldn't necessarily be a horrible pick, but I really wouldn't like his odds of success. Seems like you can get guards at that point more easily.

As far as I’m concerned, I would put Connor Williams at RT and move Lael Collins back to LG

Thank you!

Dallas should draft a tackle regardless if it's a left or right tackle, you can no longer depend on Smith either with his constant back problems and Why Collins isn't move back to left guard is beyond me, he just doesn't have the footwork to play right tackle IMO

Yep, I agree with all of this.

If you want to evaluate Lael Collins look at the second half of 2017 or the end of 2018 once Paul Alexander was gone and the OL went back to the techniques they had used in the past. Collins isn't a problem.

I do think they draft a project tackle somewhere in rounds 3 - 5. The question is swing tackle and where you resign Fleming or target another veteran who can hold down that spot.

I say yes. Give him one year as a "swing tackle" since La'el Collins is on the last year of the 2 year, $15M deal he signed last year. He don't seem like the long-term solution. He's killed drives with his false starts or holding too much for my liking.

He's an UFA next year. Time to cut bait with this dude.

I definitely want to see an offensive tackle drafted at some point.

There are question marks about both of this team's current tackles.
