Should we draft a RT?

Just like most people thought Byron Jones would be a better corner than a safety, but hey, what do internet people know?
its hype, but they did move him and he may have played better at first but once teams realized if you throw on him often and deep, he is no better the last 4 games of the seasonal and PLayoffs at corner then he was at safety..he played pretty well at safety at the beginning covering TEs etc then fell off, same thing

BTW they played LC at guard have many hours of his playtime there vs RT..again they would have moved him back this season when lG became an issue and with Fleming and Cwil available for RT..they didnt I trust they would have if they felt he was the better fit at LG already..

any other examples then 1 that is again overrated..? internet GMs please all let us know why you dont have NFL jobs..

Right now, who are the better RTs in the NFL than Collins? There may be a few but Collins is one of the better RTs and is young. I doubt he is going anywhere else. I doubt Jerry would part ways with an OT who plays well, plays hard, and stays out of trouble. Keep Collins. The OL should be in good shape next year. If the BPA is an OT, then so be it. Stay true to your draft board.

Since Byron is a fan favorite and so many want to proclaim themselves right, it appears most are avoiding the elephant in the room. Byron has been getting beat fairly regularly lately. At this point, I'm not sure he wasn't better at FS.

I feel Collins is a better G than T. He has been OK at RT, but he struggles with his footwork against good pass rushers and looks bad in doing so. I wouldn't invest in him at RT with a second contract.
He should have been at his natural, successful position at LG. Failed experiment to keep going with him at RT.

He was absolutely much improved once we switched to Columbo.

I’ll venture to say he was actually good when we made the switch.
He played pretty solid
But he’s gonna be a FA after next year
If you have the opportunity to get a RT I do it
I don’t know that we will but there is a need

They have options at OG:
Williams
Looney
Sua-Filo
La'el

The options at LT if Tyron gets injured:
I’d like to keep Fleming but not sure that option is there
Even if we draft a OT I prefer a vet at swing tackle

I think we should draft an OT to school behind Smith and Collins.
but make no mistake....with Smith and Collins as starters...we're in a dang good situation.

Id love to get KSt OT Dalton Risner...played RT and C at KSt...projects for some as a center in the league.
He has some nastiness to his game and can play outside at T or inside at G or C...makes him extremely valuable.

Maybe we will bring in someone like Kris Richard for the offense who will state the obvious that he is a LG and Connor Williams is a RT.

Since Collins played OLT his last 2 years in college, why is he strictly an OLG?

I worry more about left tackle than right. Hopefully, Smith can get healthy and stay healthy...

No go hire the best Oline coach in football. How does NE always block so well with regular guys? If we can’t have the HC surround him with savants.

They draft mid round OL's every year and coach them up. They are stellar in knowing what to look for. And they also often use 6 OL's. Yes, they miss on quite a few, everyone does. But, they know it's their bread and butter, so they always just keep taking them.

I say yes. Give him one year as a "swing tackle" since La'el Collins is on the last year of the 2 year, $15M deal he signed last year. He don't seem like the long-term solution. He's killed drives with his false starts or holding too much for my liking.

He's an UFA next year. Time to cut bait with this dude.

Collins had a decent year, but I think Williams is our 2020 RT. I don't see another contract for Collins with us.

He was wildly inconsistent at LG and he lost his starting position there. I would like to see them try C. Williams at RT and let Collins go. Collins hasn’t really been a good player at either position. Posters here have a short memory if they have forgot about Collins poor level of play at LG.
