Should we draft a RT?

I say yes. Give him one year as a "swing tackle" since La'el Collins is on the last year of the 2 year, $15M deal he signed last year. He don't seem like the long-term solution. He's killed drives with his false starts or holding too much for my liking.

He's an UFA next year. Time to cut bait with this dude.
That’s because he’s not a GD RT and these freaking moron coaches can’t see that. Great Scott!!!

I am starting to worry more about LT. Tyron is now going to have to get what I call then “Romo treatment”. Get therapy and a extra day of rest during the week and show up for the walk through and play Sunday. I am finding a decent sub for him. If big Flem can do it then fine. If we have a game we are blowing them out then I am subbing Tyron, if it’s weak competition then I am subbing him. We need to squeeze another 2 years from him and start looking now for a replacement.
His cap number is 15.5 mil this year and he is a part time player. They would save 10 mil if they cut him but they need to have his replacement before they do that. Another guy with back issues that refuses surgery!

You always draft an OL, any OL ….RT, LT, RG,LG,..C ..on this team, the way this team is built, you better always take that player if the opportunity presents itself.
Not if it means the draft pick or a good OL player wouldn't make the team.

actually, I would say not this year.... I think we should move Williams to RT and maybe Collins to guard. Williams has better feet and fundamentals but not as much power playing inside against DT....Collins is stronger and has good feet ot play inside and get to the second level and he played well there. If we are going to draft an OL, it should be targtted at a potential swing tackle or eventual replacement for Smith....

For what it's worth, agreed

He had potential to be great at basically any OL position other than the one he's at.

I will never understand the rationale behind keeping him at RT.

The rationale to moving Collins over to RT was the sudden retirement of Free. On top of that, Leary went the FA route. Of all the internal FA's we've let walk, letting Leary go was the "one that got away" but should have been signed. I think 90% of the fans were in favor of that. We blew that one.. Suddenly it was juggle, here, juggle there, patch here, patch there, try this cheap FA or that. Hellz bellz we even gave Greener a chance. That's desperation!

The problem now becomes Collins wanting T money which is typically more than G money. Just me but if I'm Inspector Columbo I'm moving Collins back to LG, Williams to RT and drafting a G or T who can step in when Collins get's T money in FA. I would look at resigning Flemming as the swing T and we have Eihringer for another year as swing G. Looney as C/G. It's unfortunate that both Eihringer and Marcus Martin were lost for the season so early. There are some answers that NEED to be answered on this O-line and we can't wait for another injury, another loss in FA. Better be progressive on this one

La'el Collins should have been a Guard. When he was first here the staff even made the comment that he could be a good tackle but great guard. This was an error on the Cowboys staff.

A friend actually said to me that Conner Williams and La'el Collins are playing in wrong spots. Conner by most teams was looked at as being a RT and Collins was better fit for guard. Conner had good quickness and feet movement but wasn't a pure strength guy that is needed at guard. Collins has more physical strength but its as athletic. When he broke it down it kind of made sense to me.

Williams should be a tackle. He is built like a tackle His athleticism should make up for the arms.
it would be one of those hitting the jack pot moments if Williams could somehow someday be Tyron Smiths replacement.
Williams could possibly be that, if he has an unbelievable dedicated off season training program, and that's only a big if.
I remember a young Tyron coming in and looking like a somewhat large TE.

I’d rather resign Cam Fleming for another year. You want an experienced player backing up at tackle.

He was wildly inconsistent at LG and he lost his starting position there. I would like to see them try C. Williams at RT and let Collins go. Collins hasn’t really been a good player at either position. Posters here have a short memory if they have forgot about Collins poor level of play at LG.

I think OT is high on our list of needs. Maybe highest on the list.

Good points. Leary was a cap casualty. We let him walk (a player we wanted) in large part due to being tight against the cap. If cap was not a consideration he would probably still be a Cowboy.

We have some cap room right now for the first time in a while. We also have several big time players coming up that are going to get a chunk of that cap. Dak, Zeke, Amari, Tank, Jaylon and a couple of others. While we can sign all of these guys if we want to, (and also sign Beasley) we can't overpay them and also not lose someone on down the road we want to keep like Leary.

I would like to see us keep all except Beasley (unless he's CHEAP) but I don't want to see any of those guys paid top 5 money if they aren't top 5. Right now the only sure fire top 5 guy on that list is Zeke. We should not overpay for any of those guys.

LOL this board used to talk La'el up like he'd be the top RT in the league. Me, and a few others, stated he is far more built for the guard position. This wasn't hard to see...at all. The fact our coaching staff couldn't get it, like putting Jones at safety (shocker that didn't work!), is really telling.

To be fair, LCollins grades out pretty good.

He’s a LT playing out of position. He’s a lefty, move him to LG and let him be the back up LT. Move Collins to RT and we are good...

Let competition be between Looney and Collins for LG...

Why not a LT? Tyron is on an obvious decline. It usually takes about 2 years for an LT to develop. I predict Tyron will be done within 2 years.
